I am planning on having a wood deck replaced. It is a south facing deck that has full sun. We are in Colorado. The current wood deck gets pretty warm in the summer. Our concern is that a capped composite deck would be to hot in the sun. We are thinking about using ipe instead.
Any experiences with composites in full sun? Or other suggestions.
Karl, We have a similar dilemma, as we have a west deck exposed to the CO sun (many of the boards have dry rot and need replacement). There are some differences in the composite decks as to how hot they tend to get in the summer sun, some are better than others. Lighter colored finishes also tend to be cooler, of course.
We may end up with Pressure treated wood if we don't find something suitable. Also may depend if it makes any difference on HO insurance, as the non wood types may be more fire resistant.
Use concrete. I,m so over wood. We,re older and not as able to take care of it.
Concrete does not seem to work well here or be affordable, when the wrap around deck is 12 feet off the ground.
