Hello! Please take a look at our new home. The front leaves much to be desired so I'd love some feedback on your ideas of what to do to give it more curb appeal!! Thanks so much in advance!!

Tearing out the overgrown bushes would be a good start. The portico you showed would overwhelm the house but on a smaller scale a reverse gable over a front porch might work in scale with the house. Until you clear out the stuff it is hard to tell because you can't really see anything but the roof and the bushes.

A lot is going to depend on your budget, redoing the landscaping is a good DIY project. You can go to a nursery and probably get a good plan for your house at little or no cost. That plan could be implemented over a couple of years as your budget permits. Adding the roof would be a large expense, and probably professionally done that you'd have to absorb at one time.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I followed the link today to see what they've been up to. The project is going well, the neighbors seem like jerks. If you have some time read TYL's blog.
