Does anyone know what that grey, gunky seam sealer is that contractors put between the joints of a concrete sidewalk?
My dog stepped in it. And it won't come off. I've been all over the internet but can't figure out what it is, to then figure out how to remove it. I've cut back the fur around her pads, and fortunately, her pads & toes aren't "sealed" anymore. Yikes! Help! |

We have purchased tubes of it from a local Ready Mix concrete company. I do recall there were lots of warnings on wearing plastic gloves and avoiding skin contact? I believe one needed to use solvents to remove it from surfaces.
Like most Butyl Rubber and other caulks, once they cure, I think the danger is over for skin irritation? Might check with your vet though? It should wear off fairly quickly, or you could try Goo Gone, (citrus oil base) and wash afterward. (BAD for anyone using this and not placing boards over or on either side to keep the stuff from sticking to feet, shoes or paws, until it cures) |

it won't come off the dog ?,,, just wait & the dog'll be fine,,, we humans get in on our skin & it falls off in a couple days/washings just from the lanolin in our bodies,,, this won't help if dog trots 'cross the antique persian rug, tho.
if its a new sidewalk, its uncommon to seal jnts til the conc's cured a wk,,, any sgle part sealant should 'skin' by air/moisture in 2-4hrs,,, typically, 2-part sealants chemically cure faster,,,certainly shouldn't be 'gunky, tho.
