We have a natural river rock-type chimney. We would like to put matching stone around the foundation of our house, which is currently poured concrete. We cannot afford real stone. Can someone explain more about faux stone? Specifically, how it is installed? I was hoping it would be more like installing Z-brick panels, but from what I've found, it sounds like stones are installed one by one?? And is veneer stone actually artificial stone? Thanks in advance for any help.

veneer stone is cultured stone. It is installed with a mortar one stone at a time. The right consistancy o mortar and it will hold against the concrete walls. I would pressure wash the wall first to remove dirt and allow it to dry before installing.

Thanks much! Do you know if there is a way to install artificial stone in an easier way (i.e. not one stone at a time with mortar). I am very "construction challenged." Smile

Do a search using stone veneers. You will get lots of ideas. There are some types of veneer that come on a "sheet" and you cut-to-fit. I would love to cover the old brick on the front of my house but can't convince the other half.

Parisgrl veneer stone , cultured stone, & artifical stone is all manmade stone. It is only about 1/4- 1/3 the weight of real stone and does not require a footing to rest on like real stone because of it's weight. But it has to be laid one at a time. Not a real big problem just time consuming. It can be cut with a small grinder outfitted with a 4-1/2 diamond blade.

My brother decided to have a stone wall added after construction had begun.. his veneer was true Austin stone.. but cut down in thickness ... where my stone is 4" thick .. his is 3/4 "... applied to metal backing.. turned out realy nice...

30 years ago w did a faux stone.. it was amazing what the crew did...
We've done several variations but I came back to whole stone for this house..
