We are having new vents installed on our roof. We are choosing between turbines or dormer vents. Is either one superior to the other as far as venting heat out of the attic? I've been told that turbines move more air, but I don't know if this is true or not.
I live in the southwest, lots of heat, little rain, no snow. We have a set of gable vents on our home, but it isn't cooling off the attic very well due to the high temps around here.
Any tips, info or suggestions? Thanks!
We have an older ranch home with just two gable vents (exposed soffits with open rafter tails so no good for soffit intake vents). We added 3 turbines about 25 years ago (the 2 gable vents and some soffit vents on a porch addition are the only intake vents) and it made a huge difference with the attic temperature.
I think ridge vents (whole length of the attic) are still the best, as long as you have intake vents somewhere near the bottom of the attic space. How much attic is above your dormers, how many dormers, can all the attic heat escape above them?
