I’ve put it off long enough, it’s time to paint the exterior overhanging section of my roof eave, ceiling over the pouch and trim around wooden windows. First, I’ve already had an assessment done on replacing my wooden windows with new vinyl windows to save energy, as well as not having to paint wooden window trims again. Based on testing, and an average $60 per month power bill (Years 2010 - 2011), it would take me 13 years to recoup the cost of installing vinyl windows.

I have three choices (so far). 1.) Painting with exterior house paint, 2.) Permanent Ceramic Exterior Coating (best known company that applies this exterior coating is RhinoShield), or 3.) have all the exposed exterior wood covered in vinyl.

The “no brainer” is vinyl, but my home is an older home and using a vinyl product would cover some great details on the wood that is located between where the roofline overhang stops and the brick starts (about 40”).

Rhino Shield “promises” with their product that you’ll never have to paint again, but I’m having a very hard time gathering on-line independent reviews on this product.

Has anyone had the RhinoShield Permanent Exterior Ceramic Coating applied to the exposed exterior wood of your home? What do you think of the product?

Thank you.
