Good Morning everyone! Please join our weekly game of Show n" Tell. Post pictures or just tell us about any great treasures you've found. Items may be old or new and we love prices too.
Good morning to you! I picked this up the other day for a hundred bucks. I meant for it to go into an alcove in my bathroom, but when I got it home I decided to use it in the bedroom instead. I think, anyway. It means room swapping a lot of furniture as well as decorating. Notice I didn't say REdecorating, because...well...there is nothing permanent in those rooms.
I will be starting new threads at some point asking for opinions along the way. Could take some time, though, due to budget and the time I spend caregiving for my parents, FIL, and babysitting grands. Whew!!!
Now that I have written a book that I probably didn't need to, here is my dresser. It's huge! Almost 6 feet wide and 4 feet tall.

Nice detail on that dresser Meldin and for a hundred bucks? Good price too.
I didn't get anything this weekend except paint samples and a lot of eye rolling from the husband.

Trust me, Wanda, there are plenty of paint samples and man eye rolls going on here too!

Very nice piece Meldin and lots of extra storage! It's great that you have a few options for it. Looking forward to your threads and see where you decide to use it.
WWanda, you made me laugh! Been there, done that with the eye rolling. My DH just groans when he hears me say I want to repaint. He knows it will be quite the ordeal.
I bought this "chef bunny" at an estate sale a few weeks ago for $1.50. I don't need it so will probably just sell it at a yard sale. I just needed something to keep me busy for awhile. Before is on the left.

My Life Vacation, that bunny is adorable! I don't think I would be able to part with him. He would be nice as part of an Easter kitchen display. Thanks for sharing him with us.
Skyler, Thank you for taking care of this thread that I look forward to reading and viewing photos on Monday morning! You have changed my view of Mondays!!! Thank you, as I sip my Earl Grey tea while viewing and checking in frequently to see what is new!
meldin, $100 WELL spent! YES RE-decorating! I didn't mind reading your 'booklet'! Life is getting tougher for us as we face more and more life challenges that do not involve playing with furniture nor accessories.... but we don't forget and keep on keeping on!
LOVE that dresser and you got a good deal, that styling is wonderful and could really go anywhere! Love the size of it too, and the wood... and the hardware is nice, love the mix with some knobs and some rings! And the 6' X 4' tall means GREAT storage ability! GREAT FIND!!!
How I also spent $100: (Edited post) I am so excited because ever since I saw Victorian Girl's fireplace (attached just below is a photo of a fireplace similar to VG's BEAUTIFUL white fireplace surround) I found this INSPIRATIONAL photo of the light color I would like to make mine like:
I have loved that arched design. We want to do a faux fireplace in the living room...so on CL this week, one turned up! I called the number right away and then had to talk DH into going to see it, he was all for it. This is the result of about 2 yrs worth of doing a fireplace mantel search on CL and antique and consignment shops in my area.
We went last week to view, the SCALE is like VG's and is a GREAT SIZE... since it was made to be for a real fireplace ... well we bought it! Even DH liked it!
The whole mantel surround and mantel shelf are made of slate and the marble is faux finish paint. I intend to strip that off (hunter green in real life) and all dirty and damaged. I will do some gray paints for the mantel and surround.
The parts are all there. The red on the center grill shows the holes in the heavy wrought iron screen grate part. That alone was worth the $100 I paid for the whole thing. DH was with me and thought it was a good buy and something he can work with when we put together the faux fireplace in the living room. I will put the electric faux fire log and light behind the grill so it will have a bit of a flame flicker inside (NO heat, not needed here in Florida where we live).
The red color behind the screen grate is just fabric that was taped behind the wrought iron.
I will draw out the fireplace surround and the over mantel molding that will connect it to the ceiling.
That project way off, we won't get to that project till the kitchen is done. I asked DH if he wanted to do this project now and then get back to the kitchen, he said no... this delay will give me time to strip the pieces and then wait till they are all assembled to paint new. I am hoping the slate is not stained too much because then I could just oil it. We'll see, otherwise it will get painted in light grays.
I am just about done with my 'to find' list! And you know to get a good deal you have to search for a long time. I have seen all sorts of mantels, some in Oak, with columns and many styles some high $ and some needing to be repaired. This one was just 'right' and the right price, that hardly happens at the same time!
Just like my pantry sink that we love... sat in the garage for a year waiting to be installed, now it is part of my kitchen and really getting used often and seems as if it was always here. My visitors (especially the ones who love to cook) gasp when they see that sink!
MyLifeVacation, What a GREAT chef bunny.. and only $1.50! I like the NEW colors on him... GREAT FIND!

Cute Bunny.
I can't wait to see what you do with that Mary Ruth. It would never have even entered my mind!
And on the painting thing, DH and I were at HD yesterday and he started giving me a hard time about the paint and I got mad and said "Unfortunately for me, YOU are the only person I have to bounce this off of. Do you think I like that???? So s uck it up and help me pick a color buddy and we'll get out of here." Shut him right up it did :

Wanda! When it comes to Paint and paint colors... I am on my own! DH disappears as soon as I turn my head! LOL He does not show up till I am about to leave the counter, he rescues me by putting the paint cans from the counter to the cart. Funny how MEN HAVE BUILT IN radar about such things! I just smile, and say 'just in time'!
I do all the painting, cutting in and prep and clean up as well. He at least WILL paint with the roller for me, which I cannot do. Cutting in takes me all day anyway... I do a bit then have to rest my arms then do a little more... sometimes I have to cut in after he rolls so that there is time to do the clean up on the same day.

Aww Mary Ruth, what a sweet comment. I'm glad you see Mondays in a different light. I'm just thankful for participation on the the thread, especially since I haven't been shopping in a long time.
WOWSER! You weren't kidding last week when you said you fond a gem of a find. That is beautiful and even more special since you've been waiting patiently for the perfect piece. I can't wait to see your project unfold. I know it's going to be spectacular
Skyler~ Good morning. Thanks for always starting my Monday off with a bang. I always look forward to reading this thread, even though I haven't been posting to it. Gotta get better at posting.
Meldin~ Wow what a grew find. Big and lots of storage space. You got a steal on the price. Enjoy it.
Wanda, girl our hubbies must be twins. He eye rolls and groans and sighs. But I just smile. As to paint samples, oh my. Have tons here as well.
My Life~ What an adorable bunny. Love the colors you painted it and just in time for a centerpiece for Easter. Love!
Mary Ruth, thanks for posting the picture of VG's fireplace. It is grand, isn't it? And your's is going to be gorgeous also. Oh don't you wish you could get right on that project. yum. Please post pics when you finish with it and it is in it's new home space!
Dh and I located pieces of an old iron grate and and fireplaces and we put them all together and now use them in the guest bedroom. No fire of course, but he put one of those little lights behind it with a flickering bulb in it and I can just switch it on and off. I love it.
Girls~ Looks like we might all be in the same boat on the same ummm trip with our dh's. Had to chuckle at Wanda's trip to HD yesterday and the comments she made to her dh. And I am totally with MR on chose paint colors. Have to choose them on my own, but dh does all the painting here, because...he doesn't like the way I paint. I am just to go-fer and set up and clean up crew, which is fine by me.
I have a find to share so I am off to take a picture of it.

This is my find this week, from Hobby Lobby, % off and on clearance also. Dh is making me some tall candle sticks to go with and I will probably hang them above the bed..

Oh, to have a husband that's handy and likes to be involved...'tis but a dream. On the other hand, I don't have to ask for an opinion because making decorating decisions is firmly in my scope of work.
Skyler, MMF is my favorite way to start the week, so I'll thank you for keeping it going, too.
Meldin, I see from your post that other priorities in your life have slowed your decorating. I love the piece you found. It looks like it will work well in many different rooms. I'm still waiting to see your finished plaid room, so don't forget to post pictures of it when you get it finished.
WWanda, I was laughing at your description of the manly eye roll...so funny.
MyLifeVacation1, you do such a nice job of painting and freshening up your finds. What a cute bunny chef!
Mary Ruth, I'm loving that beautiful insert and surround so much. It's such a great feeling when you find exactly what you want at the right price after a long search. You'll have so much extra time after you stop scouring CL for all of your needed items that you'll have to come up with a new hobby.
CaraRose, I can see that wall hanging looking very nice above the bed flanked by candles.
No real finds for me this week. My big purchase was some outdoor rated LED bulbs to go in my outdoor fixtures. I had already changed from incandescent to CFLs and experienced an energy savings as well as a longer bulb life. I was curious to see how the LEDs would perform since they don't have any mercury to make breakage or disposal hazardous. At $20 per bulb, they'd better last a good long time. I put the installation date into my iCalendar as a birthday so that I don't lose track of their age...LOL!

Thanks Skyler! You can see how hard it was to keep it quiet! I did give a few private previews just to get an honest evaluation of my 'star-stuck' purchase. I also wanted VG's opinion on it since her mantel did inspire me.
Cara, YES I did fall in love with a lot of stuff VG does in her gorgeous home, she has a great eye and is so talented with her make-overs! I love her mantel in white, but I am not doing so much white so I thought I might try something else like gray tones or gray and beige tones. I am searching for a paint finish inspiration. Like cool and warm colors with a wood mantel. Gotta figure out the over mantel and that will help me to decide.
Do you have a photo of that flickering light? That would be cheaper for me for the firelogs! And take up less room!
Great grate find! I like that frame too AND you finding it with a good deal. You will have to share photos of the finished hung project!
Cathy, Thank you! Great to see you, thanks for you great comments.
Gracie, Well I have already started looking for sconces to install on the over mantel area. I have a few in mind. AND looking for the right finish for the mantel. Faux pale marble veins or something like that... The 'old style' bold and busy marble that is on there now (with hunter green) is so dated to copy. Thank you for nice comments!

MR~ Thanks. I love everything you do, such beauty and your always such an inspiration as are so many ladies and gents on the board.
I think that gray would be wonderful for the surround. I just had dh paint a room in soft gray walls and then I painted two pieces of furniture in darker gray. Could get the colors if you would like to see them?
I will get a picture of that flickering bulb for you. Dh used a cord that has an on/off switch and plugs right in the wall. Where you screw the bulb in also has a clip around it to hold the whole set-up in place. Let me find pics for you.
Will share the grate in aqua when we hang it up with the candlesticks. And maybe even show the fireplace we made. LOL
Gracie, Just wanted to say that it is awesome to have a handy dh. He just works on something until it is *right*. He is self-taught but loves working on things and has a wood shop. I am fortunate that we don't have to hire someone usually to do those things. I use to do all the decorative choosing myself, but now that dh is retired I get his opinion although I don't always take it...LOL

Thanks for the kind words Cara! So happy you have a live-in handyman too! DH does not have the confidence to pick something out himself, always says he 'defers to his wife'! LOL But once things are in place in the house, he looks around and says it looks good.
The real test is when we have company, I hear him talking about all 'WE' did to make the place nice so he takes 1/2 the compliment. And that is why I include him on decisions for large things and also credit him for all the carpentry work. It is nice to have us both get a feather in our cap for the house the way it comes out.

Here's one of our finds for the week. Donnie found this a few weeks ago and wanted in in the front window in the LR. I sanded the top on it this morning to see what it will need for a refinish. Forgot to do the drawer. Oh, well, there's always tomorrow. It was marked $75, we got it for $45.This message has been edited. Last edited by: *~Bella~*,

Then there was the rug they've had in their shop for years. It was pretty, but kind of dirty so I never could justify paying the price. I asked about it when we went to get the table and they said it was rolled up, they were sick of it, and that they'd let me have it for $75. I think it was marked $200. It's 8x10 which is the size I was looking for in the LR. I took it home and scrubbed it for about 8 hours with the Rug Doctor, ammonia, laundry detergent with bleach, pretty much everything I could find. One whole corner was black molded where it had been rolled up by a leaking door for several weeks. Not sure what we'll have if it ever dries, but it got hours of cleaning on both sides and I can see the color on the corner that was black, so maybe it will be fine. If not, there's always the attic.
One soaking wet rug.

I forgot Junk Collector was looking for close-ups on the reupholstered furniture that came back this week also.
Here's the chair that used to be orange velvet. (Apparently, Duncan didn't get the memo about this being a cat-free zone)

This was the striped chair. I will miss the stripes, but it turned out pretty. (Apparently, Constance didn't get the memo either.)

We put the sofa where the loveseat was which frees up the window wall so you can see out better now. He did a great job on these.

And the loveseat which was had done a few months ago.
MR-Yep, it's green, but slightly to the teal side (very slightly) than emerald. I like the room when the dark blue rug was in there before, so I thought I'd try a darker one again. Although the sofa & LS have that spa blue color in it, it's not really my thing, so I think I'll try to minimize the blue in here instead of accentuating it. If the rug ever dries so I can move the furniture around, I'm going to see what the Salisbury Green looks like a the wall color. I think it will be nice without being too blue.

That upholsterer really matched up the patterns in the fabric wonderfully! WOW really nice job! And I think that the furniture looks GREAT!
That green is nice... I have always loved green.
And the CATS look like they LOVE the new stuff too!

Yay, more finds
Cara rose, you're welcome and thank you for posting this week. You found a nice treasure this week. We just got a Hobby Lobby and I've never been there. May need to take a trip there.
My pleasure Gracie and thanks for stopping in!
Mary Ruth, I'm sure VG loved it!
Bella, you got some goodies! I love the legs on that table. Your rug is pretty too, I hope it dries well for you. Your upholstered pieces are beautiful. Having someone that does good upholstery is just as important as having a good mechanic. I'm still looking for one!
Love all your finds but I confess, your kitties are my favorite. I think cats get the "cat free' memo....they just ignore it....that's cats for ya
Bella, love the table and the new upholstery pieces are lovely. Can't wait to see how your rug turns out. Gosh to work on something that long it better be nice, huh?
Skyler, Your welcome. I need to try to post more. I love my little treasure and always find something at Hobby Lobby that jumps in my cart. LOL
You have all been busy with your finds. Love seeing them all so thanks for sharing! Looks like there are some painting projects coming up too.
LOL about the eyerolls from DH. None from mine as he is just happy NOT to paint.

Cara, I have those same wall hangings on each side of my bed ( behind the lamps on the night stands) but mine are black. Love them and love yours also.
