dark teal carpet in bedroom - white furniture - help Sign In/Join
posted
My new bedroom has dark teal carpet. The room has 2 smallish windows, in 2 different walls. My bedroom furniture is white. I do not really like dark colors in the bedroom. How can I accent/offset/complement the strange dark teal carpeting? Accessories? I am at a loss. Thanks.

Can you post pictures of your space?

My first thought was to layer a rug over your the teal carpet.

Hi Dandelion wishes and welcome to this forum. It sounds like you must live with the teal carpeting and want to know how to accommodate it with your more preferred lighter decorating style.

I would not ignore it as others won't. Acknowledge it, but in very small ways. For instance if you have white curtains at your windows you could sew an edging of teal ribbon on the inside edges of your curtains.

You could try to find a comforter that is white but may have some teal accents. Maybe a lamp base or some throw pillows or a vase. Don't try to cover it up or pretend it isn't there.

Teal has made a comeback. I think it sounds better if called "peacock," because of the gorgeous images that conjures up.

Here's a fun link from Apartment Therapy: http://www.apartmenttherapy.co...stard-and-teal-44281

And, inspiration picture for a teal and gold palette, from Calico Corners:

And, here's a lovely room with (gasp) teal carpet and white walls.

Thank you. I really like the way the painting in this picture ties together the teal with a brighter color. I will have to look for a large painting/wall object.

Your room looks exactly like my sisters bedroom, same window placement and same teal green carpet. I think you can do alot around that color. Looks like it's in good shape too.

As always a printed piece such as art, an area rug, pillows/bedding, window treatments, papers, etc. can become the bridge to unite your space or, if starting from scratch, the catalyst toward establishing a room scheme. If done well, your room will remain light and the dark carpeting will be echoed in varied degrees of hue values, pattern mixes and textures throughout your room. Lighter accents (also possibly inspired by prints) can be added if you wish to around the room as well.

I don't think the dark color on the floor is that much of a problem as AYchihuahua's inspiration pictures shows. Really the first thing that struck me in the picture of your room is the stained woodwork around the window. Looks like the room has replacement windows. I would paint the stained portion white to match the window and wall.

Just my opinion. I don't expect anyone to share it.

Well, I share your opinion about that. Smile It's a good idea.

Dandy, if it's not too much trouble, painting all the trim white would provide a crisp, fresh contrast against the teal carpet.

I absolutely ADORE the inspiration picture that AY posted but every time I see a vignette of something I really like, I can't help but wonder what the rest of the room looks like.

AND, its the same way when I see a picture of a room, I really like. I can't help but wonder what the rest of the house looks like.
