What do you think of this sofa?-- NEW PICS added throughout Sign In/Join

What do you think of this sofa ? I want the room to look like a rustic, or lodge style. It is made by Lane. It is double reclining but not power. Also, it is 42" in height. Would that look funny near my chair which is a large roll arm but only 34" high? Thanks!

What I think about this sofa is that it is massive. The descriptive words I would use for this sofa are: Over scaled, heavy, bulky, very puffy, chunky, large, etc. A piece of furniture like this is going to need a REALLY large room to look right. If you live in a normal sized, residential situation, with 8-10 foot ceilings, this sofa will probably be way out of scale, so my advice is to use caution.

Thank you for your input, cocok. That is what I was afraid of, being too big.I added a picture of the room. You can see the chair in the corner. Is it still too big? This sofa was the most comfortable in the price range. If I got the Thomasville one which is also comfy but not as large, it would cost over $4000 for the sofa and loveseat. I still need a new TV and stand too.

How about this one instead? Reclining, not too contemporary or country.

Jeanie,

Love the room and size of it. Lots of ways to work your look into the space. Those are large pieces and look bulky. Will you be able to add end/coffee tables in the room?

Would a sectional work for your needs instead of sofa and love seat? What are your goals for the room? seating? You could also use regular sized sofa and another chair for the look you want. Do you have any inspiration pics?

Another idea that might work for your room if it's wide enough is to place two (same style) sofas across from each other. (One sofa back to the french doors and one sofa back to the window). Pull the sofas out into the space instead of again the walls/doors.

I have used brown craft paper to mark out furniture sizes/layouts on the floor. Sort of a try before you buy idea.

Good luck with your sofa decision.

Thanks Beau's Rose for your reply. You are always so helpful.
Actually the sofa pictured is 8" inches shorter and the loveseat is 3" shorter in length than what I currently have. So, I will have room for tables. I considered a sectional but was afraid it might look too huge. If I used 2 sofas, I would need to put the TV above the fireplace. The way by fireplace is configured, the TV would be too high.
I need lots of seating, I have 6 people living in the house. It is the family room and we have a separate living room. This is the place where we watch TV and play games and have snacks.
Whenever I try something stationary that looks good and not too bulky, it is not comfy! I would like the room to feel like I am on vacation at a resort lodge in the woods.
Does this picture give a different impression of it or does it still look bulky?

I might incur your wrath but I would be less than honest with you if I said I liked those massive sofas that seem to overwhelm any room short of a mansion-sized room.
Sorry and please forgive me.
:-(

This seems a bit lighter weight, albeit more modern, would this help?

I don't like the way those look. The back and arms just look outdated or like they will be outdated soon.

Personally, I like the look of the last leather sofa you posted. But you have to be comfortable.

Sorry, I didn't read thru ALL the post and if you answered this already or if some else already suggested it, I apologize, but can you fit two full sized sofas in there? Your space looks big enough (well from the picture it does, but its hard to tell compared to real life). You can always put your sofa where the loveseat currently is and see how much walkway is left there...

i thnk buying a sofa is the hardest decision...your room is certainly large enough for a sofa, but a love seat?...how much seating do you need? if it's just you and dh, or are there kids, lots of entertaining? do you only use that room for tv?

one of the older decorators used things like ottomans to seat in company situations...

one other question? do those pieces come in any other color than dark brown?

Thanks for looking- Always and sjf
I need lots of seating . I have 4 kids and my brother who lives with me. I don't think there would be room for 2 sofas. This furnture placement works best. I like the looks of the last one too. I was ready to pay a little more for a good quality Klaussner. I took muy daughter (who has back problems) to see the sofas. She really liked the reclining ones with motion because you can adjust it to any position. However, I keep reading bad reviews of these companies. I am looking at Flexsteel, Lane and Southern Motion. I am stuck between comfort and quality and looks. I can't find alot of information on Southern Motion. I do know they only make recliners and are in the USA. This is the Southern Motion Cape Town.

O, the last sofa you posted is much better than the first IMHO. I don't care for the looks of puffy ones however comfortable they are.

This reclining one is not as puffy. It doesn't have the double back. It is the Southern Motion Karma.

O, it's a better looking sofa than the first one IMO. I'd just take my time and keep looking for awhile. You may run into something you absolutely loves.

Is leather the only way you'll go?

I'd do more searching for you but I have to head out.

This one is nice looking but it's not a recliner.

This one is a recliner, not bad.

You could probably do a sectional too.

Victoriangirl- you are so sweet to help me look! The sectional will not give me enough seating. I like the Barcolounger and will look up more info on it. I have not seen anything like that at the NINE stores I have been to!

I can't seem to find a store that has Baralounger on display. I also looked it up and it is under new ownership since some financial difficulties a couple of years ago. I found out today that Southern Motion was started by someone from Lane who wanted everything to be made in the USA.

Oojeanie, I just did a quick search and found a few more of them on different sites. I'm heading out again. Keep searching, just google barcolounger leather sofas and you may find more.

It says free shipping. Only thing is, you can't try it out for comfort but it sure looks comfy

I found it at Amazon too.

I checked the Baralounger website and they only have that one sofa you posted. Everything else is reclining chairs. I have too many fears about this company and would rather buy another brand. I like this style and looked through more than 50 pages of images and could not find anything similar. The only other reclining sofas that I found without a double pillow back follow.

I totally agree with Cocok. I'm sure there must be nicer looking sofas that are comfortable. Puffy looking sofas are not stylish. Another problem I'm now aware of with pillow back sofas is that they need 'fluffing' to stay nice looking. One of my cats likes to lay on top of the pillow on the back so it develops a depression. I won't buy that style again even tho they are comfortable.

I recommend going to every furniture store in your area and trying out sofas - buying online without trying is a recipe for disaster.

Am I the only one on this post who likes the first sofa? It doesn't look that large to me. It does look a lot more comfortable than the others, but would it be good for someone with a bad back? That's the only thing I see that i would have a problem with. I love that first one.
