I am looking at placing an area rug over the carpet under the table and one big enough that would go slightly under sofa and loveseat. Help me choose the rug!!! I also posted a picture of the pillow pattern that I thought would work in this room as well.
Thanks for the help! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mommy4Life,
Mommy, as I mentioned before...you need lightness and color in your space. Out of the four rugs you are contemplating, the second one (blue/brown/beige) comes closest. Find the rug first since it's a higher ticket item and then echo the colors in your pillows. BTW, is there blue in adjoining public spaces? You should maintain a degree of scheme flow.

Yes, it's all open concept so the dining room is right behind me as I take the picture, kitchen to the side of that and the sunroom is right by the dining room. Here is the sunroom with our reading chairs...
So, going off of your suggestions, Froo Froo, are these more on the path of lighter and brigher and would work better than the others I posted? Like I said, I'm horrible at decorating my home. lol.
Is that pale blue in the print of the sunroom chairs? If so, the second rug is on the right path, but you can opt for the rust color rug and then add blue as an accent in the pillows. BTW, I love the bold print in your recent rugs.
Personally, prefer to shop for rugs locally so I can try them for a day or two (on approval) in my space. Not only can you see firsthand how the colors work, but it's easier to return if they're a no go. I know others here have ordered on line rugs w/ success such as Overstock.com, but I think it's more practical to shop locally.

So, I have looked at tons of rugs online and in stores. I am pretty in love with both of these last two rugs. But, I can't decide on if I go with Red or Teal for under the table. Let's take a poll...what do you think would look best?
I like the pillows with the red rug, but I'm not sure about the style with that furniture. The furniture is very traditional, and the rug and pillows have a more contemporary feel to them.
Who is it out there than do a mock up here?
Oh, and I love those chairs in your sunroom. It looks like a nice cozy spot to read in.
Create a cozy U-shaped conversation area in the living room, while lightening and brightening it at the same time.
First, relocate the leather sofa to the sun room.
2. Move the leather loveseat away from the window and place it where the sofa used to be.
3. Take the two lovely arm chairs from the sunroom to the living room, flanking the love seat. You'll have plenty of room to do this, with the sofa gone. Now, the wooden coffee table will anchor the loveseat and the chairs. You'll now be able to seat four comfortably.
At this point you may not need an area rug, because you will have introduced pretty patterns and a lighter palette into the living room with the chairs.
4. In the sunroom, place the two patterned ottomans in front of the sofa to create a comfy coffee table, where you can perch your feet. Add trays to the ottomans for magazines and such.
5. Back to the living room: paint the walls a lovely pale blue gray. Replace the shiny curtain panels with subtle window treatments: perhaps pairs of natural toned linen-cotton panels and woven wood or matchstick Roman shades.
This will add a more youthful, contemporary feel to your living room, IMO, by breaking up all the matched sets of furniture. This is especially effective in an open plan like yours.
It may mean adjusting your routines in each room, but hey, change is good!
I'm a little lost. Someone mentioned 4 rug choices but I only see 2 fabric swatches. Did I miss something? Another poster mentioned pillow options, too??
Incidentally, I usually prefer multi-colored (minimum 3 colors) rugs to pull out my selected accent colors.
Personally, I like mixing contemporary and traditional. In fact, I believe it would help to lighten up your room.
That's all JMHO - YMMV. Good luck, Mommy -
P.S. Just saw aych's post - I concur. Was thinking that the other day when I initially saw this thread. To break up sets, I'll often switch out/move pieces to other rooms. My goal would definitely be to lighten and brighten, too. This message has been edited. Last edited by: blueday,
Ok, so here is an update...I moved some pieces around a little. I could still move the loveseat where the chairs are and then place one chair on each side of loveseat but facing eachother. You do not see it (which I'll take another photo from that far left entry in this pic) but there is also a brown leather recliner there as well. Is it getting better?
I tried to also put the loveseat where the two chairs are and then put one chair on each side of the sofa (flanking) but, then the fireplace would be blocked. Maybe now adding a cream large area rug would be a good idea?
You have a very beautiful home and lovely furnishings!
It looks much better with the changes. Can the shades be raised to let in natural light? I guess that covered windows make me crazy!!! Things look better with light!

Here are the shades open. It still seems to me like it needs a light rug under the table. Should I tie red (rust) into the room. Or would a type of yellow work? Was thinking maybe another color in the room would help too. Would the red rug that I posted earlier work?
I love your new changes; taking the couch out and moving in the two pretty chairs and taking down the dark curtains, really lightened up your room. My opinion is that you don't need a rug under the coffee table now just change out the pillows on your loveseat for more color. Maybe the rug would work for where you moved your couch? Very cute dog!

Wonderful transformation just by moving things around. Frankly, I don't think the red rug is the right choice. You seem to have a chocolate brown and aqua palette so I would get something ivory or aqua.
