DH put 2 coats of the semi gloss Deft topcoat on our dresser while I was gone. I had the steel wool on the counter, but he said he didn't sand in between the coats since the directions on the can said you didn't have to.
Whattya think? Should we be sanding in between the coats anyway???? He's on the 3rd coat now. This message has been edited. Last edited by: nance425,
Well, we always sanded between coats, especially the first 2 or 3 as we found that putting down Deft brought the grain up, and a light sanding with 0000 steel wool, took it off and made it smooth again. Wipe down thoroughly with a tacky cloth after sanding. We usually ended up with 5 - 6 coats in the end and our tables withstood anything my family could dish out, includingg no glass rings. Good luck.
DH asked how Deft could raise the grain on a painted surface????
My sorry, I thought you were staining not painting. It will not raise the grain when it's painted.
