Boys room with cars and heavy metal theme Sign In/Join

Hi,

maybe someone can help me . I am looking to decorate my 6 years old's room. He likes fast cars and heavy metal. (I know it is odd). He has a little radio in his room and is always listening to the heavy metal music.
Anyway I like this room http://www.bhg.com/rooms/kids-...s-room-to-grow-into/
but I have no idea as to how to incorporate the ehavy metal element. I don't want anything extreme. Thanks

I would ask that 'heavy metal' guy to draw you some pictures of what he likes! This way you won't be adding 'too adult' content for his taste. He is obviously a musician at heart, so what is his favorite instrument? If it is the guitar, have him listen to other than just heavy metal for that instrument, so rather than fast jumbled music, he can appreciate the instrument!

This way you can decorate the room with his art, and get the colors he loves, blue, green, yellow? He might be an 'orange' fan. Then do simple decor with these colors.
Encourage him to tell you what he likes and draw what he likes, so he won't be pigeon-holed into one style because at that age it will only be a start of many changes as he explores his world and discovers new likes and colors he finds interest in.

It will be up to you to help him have a sophisticated room with room to grow and to stretch his knowledge a bit by exposing him to nature, colors and shapes, not just music (though there are many ways to enjoy all sorts of music).
For example: When my children were young, on Sunday late morning, our PBS radio played music from all over the world, a different country each week. We just listened to the music in the background of whatever we were doing. My oldest son is a drummer (older man now) and he was interested in drums no matter what form, it gave him ideas on how to be more creative at the drums. He was in a heavy metal band for a while, and could also enjoy other types of music and play his own special way on the drums.

Exposing an artist to different styles helps to widen and open their creativity!

Sounds like a fun project to help the little guy grow in creative ways! Remember the room is about HIM not the music.

Welcome. I like the inspiration pic as it's not too themey. Children outgrow their passions quickly so go easy w/ themes. As for the heavy metal aspect, just provide him w/ a radio. Wink His taste in music will no doubt change too.

Have to agree with Froo, kamal. At age 6 and for multiple years ahead, he'll be exploring many things.

I'd keep it simple and basic. That way you won't incur unnecessary costs as his tastes and interests change over time.

Good Luck!
