Hi! In my FR, I have wood blinds with a valance. I'm tired of the valance, and want to put some kind of panel curtains up instead. My existing curtain rod is placed much higher than the top of my blinds (right now, you can't tell because of the valance). Will this look okay with panels, or should we move the rod down, so it's right at the top of the blinds??
I PUSHED THE VALANCE ASIDE SO YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH HIGHER THE ROD IS. WILL THIS LOOK OKAY?

It seems everyone recommends putting rods up to the ceiling which I did recently and I like them much better. I thought it would look weird with the gap between the top of the rod and the top of window but it looks fine.
Here are mine.

Always, did you change your curtains or just never put the other ones you were discussing up! I never seen a rod that high, are your curtains 84" or 95"?

I keep reading the same thing: Put them up near the ceiling to heighten the room. I think there should be lots of example pictures of how people deal with the gap between the ceiling and rod...
How high are your ceilings? If you don't need to add height to the room maybe move the rod down to about 1" about the moulding.
Oh, maybe add some sheers in between the panels and they will soften the gap?

Oops...just thought of something. Before you move your rod, shir your new panels on the rod as if you were going to hang them, have someone help hold them up, and see how they fit the floor. That is the way I hung my last new pair of panels which had tab-tops because I wanted to ALSO make sure they hung at the proper length to the floor. Sometimes you just gotta do a little tweaking to get the best look.
Given what I can see of your room, I would say some grommet top panels would look very nice. You will need a bigger diameter rod for that look however.

I guess it comes down to what panels you will use and what length that will dictate how high to hang the rod.
Your couch looks red on my monitor--very pretty. What does the rest of the room look like and do you have any other colors in the room that you are working with?
Mounting about 6" above the trim is a good place to put the rod. A big wall gap showing, doesn't always look nice. Your blinds look like they're a little too wide for the windows, so consider also hanging one panel in the center to hide that. You could match the blinds, the walls or the couch for the color.
I should only hang one panel between the two windows? Not 2 panels per window?
Always - yes, my couches are red. I didn't bother posting any other pictures of the room, because there aren't any other colors! I have a matching couch & loveseat (red), and that's it...still working on hanging things on the walls. Just not sure what colors to use. Don't most panels come in solid colors? I'm really not into stripes or plaid for my curtains.

It doesn't look like you have much space between the windows which is why I said one. You could hang 2 on each window, but then you'll be covering a lot of glass. Of course, I'm also assuming they'll be stationary.

You'll find them in solids, patterns and prints. Whatever you like.
I would gladly only hang one panel (one less I have to buy ), I just never thought of doing that! I'll try it and see how it looks. I do like the grommet panels, but I would really like to avoid having to buy another rod..
