Hello again everyone.. Now that the holidays are wrapping up I have a few things I want to tackle.

My master bedroom is a very large 17 x 30. I have very large king sized furniture. I have been wanting an upholstered bed bench to put at the foot of bed. I want an upholstered bench so I can bring in more color with fabric. I intend on building the bench myself, since I am totally capable. I also intend on it being easy to recover , since my tastes change often.

Question is would something like the below pics look ok in my bedroom? Also, how big should a bench be in relation to my bed. It is hard to judge, because everything i look at in person is "dwarfed" in comparison to me big bed.

Also i am attaching a few more pics of my space. The room just seems a bit unfinished to me. We redone this room almost 3 years ago, and moved out over a year ago and have just moved back. I still love my wall paint, and coppery curtains. The furniture has to stay, but I can add more pieces. I am thinking about some different bedding, and maybe something to go under tv. Also , some more artwork here n there..

Any ideas & suggestions are appreciated!

Heres my bed area!

Hi boo...I think you should aim for one like the last picture. Since it will be going up against all the wood of the footboard I think not having more wood would be better....But I'm not really sure about one there at all. I can't remember ever seeing a sleigh bed with a bench at the end.

debicga.. thank you for your reply. i too was leaning towards the fabric one. I myself have searched high & low for a pic of a bed bench with a sleigh bed, and have never seen one.

We redid this room about 3 yrs ago, for the most part i am still pleased with how it turned out. We moved out over a year ago, and have just came back. The room still needs a little "finishing up" so to speak. I know it needs some more artwork and such. I sometimes feel i need something under the flat screen.

There is more to the bedroom than seen in the pic also. There is the part we use as sitting/ dressing area..

Any ideas or suggestions on bed bench or finish up are appreciated.

this is my tv area .. ( the cable that was there isn't anymore- it was a temporary hook up whe we moved back in) .

I am thinking something might look nice under tv, i am also going to put curtains on french doors.. those doors leady to a study.. we don;t need it for an office, so we are considering turning it into a walk in closet with custom built ins and benches

i think it could have been under another name, but don't remember it.. it was boo ???? something lol but i was here a lot..

then life happened , put our home up for sale,, sold twice but each time right before closing (less than 24 hrs) people became ignorant and made a mess of our lives ..
the first time i sold a lot of my furniture to kep from paying storage, so now i am trying to finish what i had started before moving, and put it all back together again.

I remember this room too. Nice work on the detail work.
I would NOT put a bench at the foot of the bed. Put your ottoman there and take another photo to show the fabric against the wood and to show you how it protrudes the bed much further into the room.

I also have a king sized sleigh bed and I do not see many photos of benches on the end because the foot-board of the bed is decorative on its face so it does look good uncovered. And because the headboard and foot-board add 8" to 10" on the bed length and most rooms are not long enough to add that length. I have a small bedroom, and the headboard alone on my bed adds 8" alone.

When you add that ottoman you have in the room (scoot it over to the foot of the bed) take a photo (the angle that shows the TV) and see how much room it takes up.

For addition of color and not lengthening the bed, I could suggest a throw or quilt placed over the center part of the foot-board.

I think you have done a great job so far in customizing your Master bedroom. And so sorry to hear about all the trials of having your home on the market.

Photo attached found through Google search:
Notice the extension of the sleigh bed foot-board on top portion making any ordinary bench depth not suitable to actually use. Impossible to sit on with that part of the foot-board hitting someone's back.

I also vote for no bench. It looks like it would be in the way walking toward those french doors.

Boo - I remember your beautiful "leathered" walls. Beautiful, different paint job.

Was your former name "Boospinkler" or something like that???

Perhaps 2 small benches would work. Love the new copper piece. It has a nice scale to it.

Beau's Rose : Thanks so much for those pics. I like bench # 2. I have looked around a lot for bench pics & sleigh beds, and you had some Smile

The room is paint.. Its an aged leather finish, some also call it brushed suede.. I paint a lot, decorative and lots of plain ol' paint lol..

Thanks for the compliment on the copper piece. I found that at a ross on our anniversray trip to fl.. I have a great love for copper..
I do need to take in consideration what Mary Ruth posted about the bench being hard to use due to roll of the footboard. My footboard curves out a lot, so I will get some measurements tomorrow.

The only question I have is: Will there be enough room if you put a bench at the foot of the bed AND put something under the tv???

Just have to say LOVE the chair you bought to replace the chaise that you sold.

Lu: I have thought about that . I am not sure if there would be room for both. I am still weighing my options. The bench would be a nice place to sit down to put shoes on and stuff( or another place for my cat to sleep Smile lol )

The piece under the tv, i having trouble deciding what to use. I would like to find something used to fefinish in maybe a creamier white distressed with mocha glaze.. or maybe a black piece.. I don't want it to be to tv looking. Does that make sense.. I really would like something to fill the space. Unforunately our tv is neccessary lol. I work 16 hr days a lot and when i get home or when i am off i like to not leave my bedroom. Something with storage would be nice for dvds and stuff, and anywhere else to put decor is awesome?

What do you al think is a better fit-- A bench , or something for under tv?

Thanks for the chair compliment. I picked it up used for $75 on a local buy sale site.

If you can't fit both...I would chose something under the TV. Since you already have the chair or ottoman the cat can use Smile I think the storage would be a bigger benefit.

I would maybe look for a not too deep cabinet of some sort. Since your TV is on the wall you don't need to stick with a TV/entertainment cabinet unless you just want one. You could even go with a bookcase as you can find baskets that can house any DVDs and such. And if you need it to house a receiver you can always drill a hole in the back of a bookcase for wires.

maybe i could find a cheap narrow bookcase to refurb.. i don't have to have room for wiring etc.. thats all taken care of up top.. we hung the tv where we could turn a receiver on its side an be hidden while still working.. right now we just do netflix, so the roku box is tiny.. i have no intent on going back to $90 cable bills, not here enought to justify cost lol.

i will start trolling cl Smile

I really like the first one. Depending on the size of the slots you might be able to find baskets to fit on nicely.

ok, heres a pic of the ottoman from the chair in the sitting area of master bedroom in front of bed just to give an idea.

also, i found a cabinet i liked that is 15 " wide and 48 long ( my tv is a 42 so it would leave a couple inches on each side. ) and would still leave room for french door to fully open..

All i had to mark ouline of cabinet was dvds lol..

There would actually be room for both pieces, but I am really liking a cabinet i found which i will post a pic of below this post.

Another vote for the cabinet you are liking! That one is gorgeous!
Since you are looking for a place to sit and remove shoes, you could place a small chair, stool, tuffet, ottoman, etc. next to the cabinet on the side furthest from the doors for that purpose. That would visually fill some wall space as well.

I am really thinking that last cabinet I liked so much also. It's at Kirklands.. So when i get done with this remodel and these looooong cold days, I am gonna go see it in person.. I sure hope they do a sale soon.

Christmas Candy: I love your idea about filling the space, but once that cabinet goes under tv, I will be outta room on that wall, becuase it turns into that arch way.

Lu: I am addicted to the netflix to.. expecially for the $8 a month opposed to cable.. I watch a lot of comedies, and with the loong days I can hardly stay up to watch a movie, but with the netflix i can give it about 4 trys lol.. with no late fees or due dates ..

AND to throw this idea in... On our drive today we are now discussing putting our fireplace back under the tv with a mantel and such this time.. Last time we had gas logs, but maybe electric this time (because of my asthma)..

We ttok the other fireplace out at sale time, because they frown on a fireplace in a bedrrom saying its not big enough to handle the fumes and eats up all the oxygen.. What they forget is our bedroom area is half our home with really high ceilings.. (crazy how we can put it up for sale with a fireplace in a 15 x 17 lr with 8 ft ceilings ) but not a 510 sq ft bedrrom , plus a study and master bath
