DH and I decided to buy something together for the house for our Christmas presents to each other. We looked at beds. All the beds we liked were $4,000+! All the beds we could afford were junk. So DH said with $300 worth of wood, he would build us a $4,000 style bed that we liked. But...I am still waiting on the tiger maple sofa table he "gave" me for my birthday 5 years ago! I have a line drawing of it somewhere...

So...I was not going to fall for that again and I kept shopping. hee hee I found these chairs on Amazon of all places. These will go great with the 6 dining chairs we bought at an antique store a few years ago. These arm chairs will go on each end of our future dining table and then we'll have 3 of the antique ones on each side of the table.

Here is the new captain's chairs! They cost $382 total with shipping for the two.

Daciab, those are some awesome looking chairs. Love them : )

I can't seem to post pictures right now. Something seems to be messed up on my computer. Frown
My brother tried to fix it for me this morning, to no awail. It seems to be the port in my tower that I stick the memory stick in. It's not working anymore I guess.
I'm so bummed at not being able to posts pictures now.
I have a great find too. A really pretty mirror that I bought at an antique store. Shoot.

Daciab, those are great looking chairs! Wow, what a price too. I love a table with different chairs on the ends. I bet your table will look terrific.

DH and I always do the same thing at Christmas. Instead of exchanging gifts we buy something for the house that we both will enjoy.

Oh bummer lilsophie! I really want to see your mirror. Computers can be so darn frustrating. Is it for the room you're redoing?

Yes it is Skyler. I have been looking for a long while now. I waited and waited for the perfect one. And found it at Old Town Orange. I will try to use the laptop and see if I can figure out how to do it on there. The darn desktop was to easy to post pictures with online. Or I will have to wait for dh to figure it out for me. lol

Here is a link to my chairs:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P...1760_3p_M3T1_SC_dp_1

It says List Price: $927.34 and I saved $590.68 (64%)But who knows if that is a true price or not.

I just confirmation that they are shipped and will be here within one week! I'm anxious to see the quality IRL. I'll post a photo of them with the other chairs on a future MMF.

But, we still need to upholster the original 6. That was part of the "deal". DH is going to repair and glue the antique chairs. I will refinish and I might upholster the seats. Otherwise, I will shop for a new upholsterer.

Dacia those chairs were made for your elegant farmhouse/slightly western style. Do you have pictures of your other antique chairs to share?

I always love your "way of doing things".

Dacia, awesome chairs!! I bet you'll feel like a queen sitting in one of those, Smile

Lilsophie, sorry to hear about your frustration. I have such little tech knowledge that when something doesn't work, I have no clue how to fix it!! Confused

But, thanks to friends here, I can now include emoticons again!! Smile

I hit the 80% off sales at Michael's and HL!!
I bought 4 of the glitter green poinsettias, 3 of the pink and green poinsettias, and several sequin picks, and other filler picks.

The arrangement IRL is so much prettier than I can show in my pictures! It is in a temporary vase right now as I am looking for a tall clear glass cylinder that I can add colored glass as filler for the vase.

It is going to be the CP for a table that I set at an annual Holiday ladies luncheon at my chur*ch. It is all lime green and hot pink. the sprays that appear kind of purple are really hot pink!

Happy New Year everybody,
Candy

A close up that still doesn't show the true color and bling of the florals.

Oh well, it really is striking IRL. Smile

That's beautiful Christmas Candy! I found a tall clear vase at TJ Maxx, do you have that or a Marshall's near you? It was a great price too!

I'm so happy to be home. Of course, now I have to put away all of the Christmas decor, but I can do that over the next week or so without rushing.

DaciaB, I hope you love the chairs when they arrive and look forward to seeing them mixed with your antique side chairs.

Candy, those are some bling-ed out poinsettias. The colors remind me of Mardi Gras.

I didn't do much after-Christmas shopping. I did stumble across a new purse for 50% off...just your basic black with lots of organizer pockets...when I went to a little gift store just to browse.

I also found this cookie jar on eBay for less than I've seen it in the stores. I fell a little in love with it at Christmas, but talked myself out of it because I don't use cookie jars and I don't have any place to store it. When I saw it at such a good price, though, I decided to buy it. I may keep it or I may give it as a gift next year. I have 11 months to make that decision...lol.

Thumbs up to all.

Only thing I bought this week was an air pop corn maker at Goodwill. It had a sticker that said "tests ok". So I brought it back to the condo I am renting here in FL (I forgot to bring my own popper with me) -- I put the corn in, plugged it in and turned around to do something else. It worked for about 10 seconds then quit -- I turned around and little puffs of smoke were wafting up from the top of the machine.

So back to the store tomorrow to return it. I really don't want to buy a NEW one because I have a perfectly good one at home but I really miss my air-popped popcorn. Tried it a couple of times in the skillet and just not the same.

MyLife - at Target they carry a plastic bowl popper for use in the microwave - I think it is about $10. I like mine better than the air popper. In fact, the air popper went into the "donate" bin this past weekend.

Crafty, I have both a Home Goods (really close) and a Marshalls (fairly close.) I will check it out. Thanks.

Gracie, the colors are actually lime green and hot pink. There is no purple even though one of the sprays appears to have a purple cast.

Candy

I will check this out today. Thanks for the recommendation. I was concerned about BPAs but everything I read online says it is BPA and Melamine free. From your link it says the price is $8.99 and I paid $6.00 at Goodwill for the broken one. Thanks again for the tip.

lilsophie- I can't wait to see your photos!

Skyler-thanks. I'm so excited. We don't buy new stuff. In 17 years of marriage we have bought kitchen bar stools, a TV, and a mattress that were new. That's it! Everything else has been from an auction or family member or old & broken that we have to repair. (like the 6 other DR chairs)

Tuesday - I think they will work great with the style we are building towards. I can't find a photo of our other chairs on my computer. I will take a photo of them along side these when they come in. The have the Barley twisted leg on the front and are a dark color. We only have one that is usable right now. We will fix the others so we have a complete set this winter.

Tuesday part 2 - Ha!- just now saw your comment about "your way of doing things". Do you mean how we buy 6 broken chairs, then find 2 captains chairs before we even have a table, rug, or floor refinished? We buy what we like when we see it I guess and build from there.

Christmas Candy - I don't sit much. :-) But I am super excited. Love your Christmas bargains! Such fun colors.

Graciepj - I will post a photo of the two styles of chairs together. I hope they work as well as they do in my mind. If you love that cookie jar, then I think you should keep it! I did the same thing with 3 Christmas cupcake plates. I love them but may gift them also.

MyLifeVacation1- I love my whirley pop popcorn maker that makes the popcorn on the stove. We had an airpopper when I was a kid. It does have a different taste and I know what you mean by getting the kind you like. I hope you find a solution. I can't live without popcorn! I eat it 1-3 times each week. (blush)

Skyler,
Thanks again for the MMF thread! I do love to look for this thread each week and enjoy seeing everyone's finds!

I have nothing new to the house, BUT we moved a few large pieces of furniture around to their permanent homes and so I got to see all my Christmas stuff and my collection of SPlated trays! So, I feel so happy I got to see my decorating treasures this week!

I also made plans for the built-ins around my dining room wall this week. Cataract surgery postponed so have the month freed up for playing around the house and more purging!

daciab,
Wonderful CHAIRS! Good price too! Can't wait to see them in your setting! DH and I do that too, a project or something to enhance our experience together in our home to enrich our lives is the BEST gift! And being CREATIVE is the best way to make the gifts even MORE special! Wow, if you redo your 6 chairs it will all be like a whole new set!

lilsophie,
You can share that photo anytime! I hope you get your computer woes fixed soon! Will be checking MMF's threads to look for your mirror find photo!
I have a few ports on my computer that do not work anymore. I have a port in my printer (that communicates with my computer) and so I can stick a memory stick in that port and it works.

Christmas Candy,
very festive AND can be used for other table settings other than for Christmas with those colors! How wonderful you were able to get them on special!

Remember, you can always take plain glass vases and pour craft paint and twirl around and dry upside down to make any clear (thrift store find) vase to make it a solid color like hot pink or whatever you need. Hides all stems too.

Gracie,
AW what a cute cookie jar! Can be put near advent calendar and be day 25 with surprise inside! I love the snow and wreaths on the windows and over the door.

MLV,
Aw too bad about popcorn popper! I'll bet you remember to bring it next year! If it is your vacation home, you could just leave it there so it will be there next year!

Thank you everyone for sharing in this great weekly thread, I enjoy viewing everyone's finds!

Great chairs Dacia!
Not sure if anyone had any interest in the Neiman Marcus/Target collaboration that came out Dec. 1st but I certainly got sucked in. The most coveted piece (to me anyways) became the Altuzarra Tray. Pretty pricey at $79.99 at Target so I guess I should count myself lucky that I was never able to find one in-store.
Received a Target gc for Christmas so decided to look online and low and behold...$29.99!
Love it. Made of mahogany with faux-croc and tempered glass. Incredibly heavy.

I fear I'm messing up the boards with the ginormous pics I am always posting Frown sorry!

Skyler,Thanks for the MMF thread and reminder to use those gift cards. My guys passed their lowes cards to me and I will have fun in the garden shop soon.

Dacia, Those chairs are a great price! Too funny about the furniture promises.

Lilsophie, Hope you get the pics straightened out on your computer.

Candy, That is such a festive centerpiece. It's sure to bring smiles to your guests. Did you check the GW for the glass vase you need?

Gracie, Adorable cookie jar! Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

My Life, Did you get your refund? Your popper was just too pooped to pop! Sorry I could not resist that one. I hope you are enjoying the FL weather.

Mary Ruth, Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Loved your design for the arch-wall.

My 2 gals, that is gorgeous and the perfect accent tray. Isn't it a great feeling to score a sale like that?

Fun treasure hunting everyone!

Beau's Rose,
It got postponed, DH brought home (from work) a stomach virus... so it is being delayed. They said they are cautious about this flu season and don't want anyone there SICK! They told me to call them IF I felt sick, so I did and then they thought they would play it safe and reschedule.

Will reschedule me for next month or abouts.
I feel OK, but DH still has upset stomach.
Staying home and away from public places for a few days for me.

Thanks for the chuckle Beau.

I did get a refund on the Goodwill air popper. Then off to Target to purchase a Nordic Ware bowl recommended by junk collector. It was $8.99. I made a batch of popcorn when I got home -- it was better than the skillet popcorn.

However, when I washed it this morning, I found the bowl had a 3 inch crack in the bowl -- clear through. So, today I will take it back to Target and buy some brown paper bags and make microwave popcorn in them. That should keep me going til I get back home in early March.
