I've seen santa hats as toppers, sprigs of poinsettias, sparkly 'sticks', feathers, bows, etc. What ideas do you have?

I once had a hand made angel made out of brown paper bag on a wire frame; really rustic and I lover her, but think I gave away in one of our many moves.

Have had a lighted star and not we have an angel in a white dress that has lights underneath. She also holds two candles that are lights.

When I was little, our tree topper was one of those pointed toppers.

As a child, mother made a cardboard star and covered it with aluminum foil. We thought it was beautiful! I now have an angel with lights. Do think a star looks great!

I have a small angel that is over 40 years old and a larger rustic one that my daughter gave me years ago. I also have a snowflake I bought a few years ago that I use on the tree so I can use the angels in vignettes.

No tree, so no topper for me, but the tree we put up at my mother's house usually is topped with ribbon and branches, velvet poinsettias or sparkly sprays.

This is one of my tree toppers this year in my sunroom which is the family collector ornament tree. It's a star with some red mesh ribbon twirled in there and iced branches.

I have a star on one and a Santa hat on the other. I have a few different ones that I use depending on my mood. I had a angel for years but haven't used it in a few years.

A friend has a very nice black top hat she uses to dress her tree top.

We have a lace angel/fairy that has a wing caught in a sparkly wooden mouse trap. I love it because of the sense of humor of the gift giver, and it makes me smile.

I have an angel that my DD made decades ago, and I cherish it, even though she would like to see it gone. It's that printed interfacing that kids sew around to make ornaments and such. I love it!

If we put up the big tree -- nothing for it touches the ceiling. If we have a smaller live tree, it's a vintage glass Christmas topper -- the kind you often see in mags -- several of them lined up on a mantle!

This is ours. DH sculpted her many years ago.
We don't put a tree up anymore so this angel will be an heirloom for a grandchild.

One time our dollar store had them for a dollar. I bought a lot of them. They are very fragile. I have fastened some to candle sticks for stability and yes, have used them as Martha says, to line my mantel.

One year we decided to use my Amish doll (Amy Amish) as a tree topper. We had to use the ties on her apron to attach her to the tree. The poor little thing looked like a hostage up there, so we never did it again!

in 1984 we had just moved out here from the Chicago suburbs. DH had made a HUGE career change, going from 11 years as a suburban cop to first year teacher. We had 3 kids, 6 and under and were living on his substitute teacher pay.

We had some basic ornaments, typical "kid" stuff, balls, baby's first and stuff made in nursery school.

I went out and made an angel for the top of the tree. I bought one of those little hard plastic craft dolls, a 12 inch square of white felt, half a square of plastic canvas and 3 pipecleaners. I spent $1.79

I cut out wings and wove into the canvas the blue metalic pipe cleaners. I created a blue halo, and a silver belt.

Out little angel was wired to the top of the tree, and being very busty, my mom said "she looks like a little 'floozie'!" So for nearly 30 years she has been our floozie angel and is always always on top of the tree.

Life is GOOD!!

Love them all, and the stories behind them. Emily, yours is certainly special, and a wonderful heirloom. I also love the "floozie angel" Kathy Wink

Mine are just boring chain store angels. Maybe I should try to come up with something more creative...but on the other hand, these are the ones I have used most of my kids' lives, so they are their own tradition in that way. Maybe someday they will remember those Michael's/Hobby Lobby angels as being "my childhood tree toppers."

Our angel that we have had for many years. Most likely from a chain store. Think the year we got her she was a splurge, even though not real expensive. Most of our money went for the boys, not decorations.

Before that was a star that wasn't very pretty.

I too have enjoyed the photos and stories of everyone's toppers.

I use the same angel topper DH bought me 20 yrs ago for our first Christmas together. It's nothing fancy (bought her at Kmart) as we had just finished paying for our wedding and buying a house. Money was tight.

I have seen some amazing toppers in recent years but could never give up my special angel. The fact that he went out and bought her for me makes her priceless. She makes me smile every time I take her out of the box Smile

Ever heard "the story" joke of why the angel is atop the tree?
It was once a VERY bad year for Santa. On Christmas Eve, the elves went on strike and refused to load the sleigh, it had a flat runner, his GPS was on the blink, Rudolph had a sinus infection and his nose was dim, Mrs Claus was pms-ing. Everything seemed to be going wrong and Santa was stressed to the max, and just could not take anymore.

Just then, a little angel with a long white dress came up to him, dragging a X-mas tree by the top and asked "Where should I put this, Santa?"

And that is why there is often an angel atop the tree. Wink

Conrad, that put a smile on my face.

Years ago saw a beautiful angel to make in a magazine. Would loved to have done that one. Don't know where the magazine is any more. Would have cost a lot, I am sure. My kids have put this angel on the tree for many years and now the grandkids. She isn't fancy, but does have sentimental value.
