Hi everyone! My husband and I are relocating, which means a new house and new STUFF! I have never had a nice master bedroom and I am determined that this will be one of the first things I tackle so i can make sure it gets done. I am going for a vintage/serene/romantic feel (lol, that's a lot of words). I have attached a pillow that I love. I love the blue and the creams. I am getting an upholstered headboard that is a light tan and I intend on putting mirrored nightstands next to it. I do have a cherrywood dresser, so will need to incorporate some darker items as well to pull that in. My next main concern is the bedding. what kind of bedding would you put with these pillows? Pics or links would help greatly! I really appreciate ANY ideas or thoughts. Thank you so much! ![]()
Welcome to HGTV boards! I love that romantic look for your bedding, and the colors are soft and serene. I would go with the darkest beige color for the bottom sheet and the lightest color for the top sheet. For a change out get a bottom sheet similar to the color for the background on that fabric (the green). Then I would look for ways to tie in the Cherry wood for your furniture. I hope your move goes well and we get to see pictures! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

Another option would be to use all cream with texture like matelasse or embroidery, adding color with pillows. Most of the major retailers have bedding like that so you can pick the price level that works for you. Draperies with cream/ivory, tan, blue and dark brown stripes would help tie in your dark furniture and light bedding, plus offer some contrast to the florals. Oops! Forgot to say, "Welcome!"This message has been edited. Last edited by: Graciepj,

Thank you so much for the tips and for the warm welcome. I am SO excited, and a bit nervous, to be able to finally decorate MY house. I will have a TON more questions I am sure as I move room to room. Trying to complete one room at a time though, so I don't overwhelm myself. If I go with the cream or darker cream from the pillow as the main comforter, do you think that will clash with the upholstered headboard? Or is that just not to be considered since it's a neutral?
Oh,one more question. . .and I feel really silly asking this. What do you mean by bottom sheet and top sheet? Is the top sheet the quilt or comforter and the bottom sheet the actual "sheet"? Very confused on that one. LOL!
Hi slparker 418, I had given you general advice (not knowing what else is in the room, or what color tan the upholstered headboard would be). I usually buy two sets of sheets for general use, and another for 'dress up' time for when I am going to have company or family over for a stay. So, I usually mix the colors, like a pale blue bottom sheet from one set and a white or light green top sheet from another set, then switch them out. This gives the bed a bit more dimension than just all one color. I figured you might like that idea with the dimension shown on the pillow fabric inspiration. And if you get your upholstered headboard first, then it will be easier to match up bedding later. Your most expensive single piece will be the headboard, so get that established first, then choose the rest of the bedding. If you are ordering a custom made headboard, then ask for a sample of the fabric to have with you when shopping for bedding. I like Graciepj's suggestion of textures such as matelasse or embroidery, and or stripes to go with other prints. When out in department stores or online searches, look at 'bed in a bag' collections or designer collections such as Ralph Lauren (my favorite) and see how they mix patterns and see if there is a style you like more than the others, then you will have a visual idea of what you are looking for when mixing patterns and textures. I am so glad you came here to get started with your new home ideas! I look so forward to seeing your posts of sharing your home with us, that is why we come here to post and to meet new people who have a common love of decorating like we do. And in the process of sharing we work on our homes and kicking it up a few notches is so much FUN! Thanks Mary Ruth! Here is a link to the headboard I am getting. It was from a model home (found it on craigslist.) http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/fuo/3000351991.html Maybe that will help for colors?
I love your vision that you have for this bdrm. Sounds so pretty. And thanks for posting a pic of the headboard. What a beauty it is, and what a great find.
slparker418, That is a nice one! And what a GREAT price and it is in NEW condition! You will have to post on our 'Monday Morning Finds' thread! We post items there we find on CL and other sources. We just love to see the other great bargain hunters/finders locate during the week! I posted the photo because CL listings are taken down sometimes right after the item is sold, so I clipped the photo and posted it here to have the picture source for discussion. What a great color too, Camel back is a tried and true design that will not go out of style. You can also have slip covers (a chance to add fabrics and other colors here too) made for this type of headboard, so they can be laundered and put back on. Or if your headboard becomes soiled, you can recover. I would treat the fabric first to help it repel dirt and dust. Scotchguard is one product that comes to mind, but other posters may have other suggestions for you. Congrats on your GREAT find! Welcome. I agree..going neutral and textural especially if you paint your walls a hue value of the blue found in the inspirational print. Over time, perhaps you can locate a soft throw in the same blue for the bed or a bedside chair bench or chaise. A two color palette will keep the serene feel you seek and the cherrywood furniture will POP against the pale blue walls. Texturals and even an added print such as a stripe or plaid in the blue/tans will add more visual punch. Touches of sparkle via the mirrored night stands and perhaps metallic lamp bases, a crystal chandelier, mirror or picture frames, a mirrored accessory tray atop the cherrywood, etc. will enrichen the effect even more. Do NOT overlook lighting at different intensities and directions into your design plan. Happiness in your new home! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Froo Froo,

I've nothing more to add since I totally agree with all the advice you've already gotten, except that I love the direction you are going in with this room and I can't wait to see pictures. It's a great color scheme. And welcome! Wanda

Welcome slparker. That is a beautiful head board and pillow fabric. Where is the pillow coming from and do they have a bedspread available or could you find a bedspread to match the pillow fabric? Are you speaking of one throw pillow or shams or what? I would say so far from these two samples your theme is traditional serene. I think there is some confusion with the term "bedding" Mary Ruth seems to be speaking of it as sheets, not coverlets/quilts/bedspreads etc. And she may well be using the sheets for those things too! Given the selection of your very beautiful headboard I would look for a spread/coverlet etc that is the same color as that and then for additional pillows or sheets and pillowcase sets I would choose same colored (as the pillow)but in maybe a stripe or a check or something to repeat the colors of the pillow you chose but in a different design.

My posts are not showing up for some reason. Maybe they'll appear eventually, but would you mind attaching pictures of comforter sets/combinations you think would work with the headboard and pillows? I am awful at envisioning things. I answered lots of questions in my "attempted" posts. . so if they don't show up, I'll re-type the message tomorrow. Thanks so much!
Ok. . .what about this? I seriously DISLIKE all the mess of frilly pillows in the stock picture, but if I strip all that away and picture the comforter with just the solid Euro Shams and my blue pillows and then maybe another blue blanket to throw at the end of the bed. .it might work?? I'm unsure though. .like I said, I am really bad at picturing things. What are your thoughts on this?? It's white, but will that not work because there isn't any 'true' white in the pillows? Love the texture of this though. s-96 Or this one?? Totally different look. s-96 Or am I WAY off base here? LOL I know what I want, I just can't get the picture in my head! This message has been edited. Last edited by: slparker418,

The second one is very pretty and features the blue (if it's the same blue as in your inspirational print) and tan you desire. Notice how the wall color makes the upholstered headboard pop. Lovely.
I like that one too! My head just feels like it is spinning because I kept picturing a solid and now I'm trying to picture a pattern. LOL Ok, so I found this and I absolutely love it. .however the dimensions don't work for me. I have had a duvet that was short on the end like this and it drove me nuts. Always felt like it didn't "fit" the bed right. So then I figured we could just order the King size duvet, but then it would be massively long on one side. But I'm struggling because I really like it. Here's the link, with pics and dimensions. Do you still like the patterned comforter or is this better? http://www.westelm.com/product...over-and-shams-b340/
I am liking this set. You can piece the bedding for your room also. You can copy by purchasing sheets and comforters from different sources and build your own bed. It is always good to look at existing sets to get ideas when the mind is unsure. I like this set, seems very dressy yet comfortable. If the rest of your house does not have textured items as a feature this may seem out of place, but does look very comfy! Would go well with textures such as thick shag accent carpet, or textured wood, or art for example. Brings a modern edge. This message has been edited. They are all nice. I say, go for what you love. It would be nice if you could switch them out for the seasons. I love a crisp white in the summer but the patterned would be nice for the winter. I put everything together so you can see it all side by side. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()
The headboard you are getting looks very similar to the one in the pic that Mary Ruth posted. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****
Thank you for putting all the pics together for me victoriangirl!! I went and saw that Cindy Crawford set in person today...it's very pretty. Hard to picture it when it's all balled up in a bag, but I guess I have to trust it will look like that picture when it's all set up. Will my pillow sit well on top of all this print? The print on the pillow is totally different. That's my only concern. What do you guys think?
I think your pillow will go with the beige parts of the set. Not sure about the blue/green parts. Bring the pillow with you when choosing a set. Check it out in the JCP store before ordering. I think if you take your pillow shopping to test it with other bedding in person you will see your options right away! Where did your inspiration pillow come from? Do you know the source of the fabric? Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
The color does go with the set. .I'm just having issue with putting such different patterns on top of each other. I got them from the clearance section of American Signature Furniture. I can't find them online. They were only $9 per pillow!!
If you cannot deal with different patterns, then you will need to find the exact pattern on our pillow or do not use the pillow on the new bed set. You got a great deal if you got $9 per pillow! Do they still carry the fabric perhaps? Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
Oh no. .I do not mind putting different patterns together .. I am just wanting to make sure the patterns "go" together. I know you can mix and match but there are just some that would look awful when put on top of each other. . .so I was just wanting to make sure this pillow's pattern wouldn't be awful up against that bedding's pattern. I hope that made sense. LOL!! I don't know if they carry that fabric or not? I couldn't even find those pillows on their website, so I guess I could try calling.
Hello, I would choose either an ivory or brown color for the bedding, and a bed skirt similar to the blue on the pillow. Hope this helps and congrats on your new home!
I understand, just that I would not be able to shop online for a specific color because monitors show different colors than in real life sometimes. Unless you do not mind returning things! LOL I understand, some patterns look great together others do not. That is why it is good to study other bedding collections to see what it is about the mix that you like. Some mix small prints, stripes, and floral. I like that80schic's suggestion of going some other direction than what is shown above. You can tie in that pillow fabric so many ways! Linda A has a site listed in her signature, not sure if this is her site or not, but it is linen for sale, could be spam? Just checking, spam is not allowed on the boards. Ok, so I found this coverlet on clearance at Macy's tonight at the mall. even better they pre-sold it to me because on Friday it goes another 40% off. Here is the link to it. . .however, I will say this looks a lot better in person...I don't like how the pattern looks online. It is the champagne color (not the silvery oyster color.) I was thinking of using this as the bottom cover and then getting a fluffier more textured down comforter to fold on top of it. Thoughts on this? Keep in mind it's returnable, so don't feel obligated to say you think it will work. LOL!! http://www1.macys.com/shop/pro...n-coverlet?ID=482925

Do you have your bed set up? How are you liking this new coverlet next to the headboard? Does it go (in your mind, does it look good together)? This type of coverlet can also be folded at the foot of the bed, Does it go with the infamous pillows? Does the oyster color and sheen go with the pillow fabric? If you do not absolutely love it in tomorrow morning's light, then it is not the one to keep. And you are moving soon (?) and there is probably a 'to do' 'must have' list that needs attention too. So, you can get the basics now for your bed (sheets and a cover blanket) to use when you move in.This message has been edited. Haha. .that's the funny part. I don't "have" anything in my possession yet except that silly pillow! All my craigslist finds are being held in TX until we get there (the 2nd week of June). So I am just trying to buy all the pieces so that when we finally get there I can throw it all together. Since I pre-purchased the coverlet, I can't pick it up until Friday. It's their one day sale, but I guess because their system already was showing the price and there was one left, she was aloud to sell it to me. . I just couldn't take it home with me. LOL We had the pillow with us though and it goes well with the coverlet. Now I just need to find a duvet cover with some more "life" to it to fluff up the bed. I am also on the hunt for some mirrored nighstands without spending our life's savings. I found an auction on e-bay selling 2 nightstands for $499 with free shipping. As of yet, this has been the best deal I have seen. I do not want the rinky dink nightstands that are in like Target etc. . I like the full table with the doors. .which of course are expensive. Why must everything I love have a huge price tag! LOL
Victoriangirl (a gal who posts on this board) had some luck with finding a mirrored vanity. Link to her thread about the vanity. If you have a Home Goods store near you check them out first. TJMaxx, Ross and Marshalls all have areas in their stores that have marked down furniture at good reduced prices and these are new pieces, not used. Yes the 'rinky dink' nightstands will have a smaller scale and not hold up to the demands of being elegant that you are looking for. I admire your energy to NEST in your new home! It is exciting and I can almost hear your voice crack and raise as you write your posts! Time is approaching but what to do in the meantime! Getting things ready is so much fun. I can see you have a 'list' or an idea of the parts you are looking for now for your bed. That is wonderful that the colors match! You are doing so well sticking to your plan! It is so easy to get sidetracked! You are so focused and ready to get this ready for your move! I think the auction on eBay sounds good if it is for 2 pieces and they are substantial size and quality. Especially with FREE shipping! Do you have a link to those nightstands? And remember, you got a steal on your headboard! What else do you need for your bedroom? If your walk-in-closet has enough room you can plan to store a lot of clothing that otherwise might have to be in a dresser, so you save money by not having to purchase dressers for the bedroom. I had shelves for my folded 'off work' clothes, and shoes. This is another way to get more bang for your buck. It will be so nice to travel through your journey with you to Texas! What a wonderful time of new beginnings and such potential for you! And I hear you, HUGE price tags give me hives! This message has been edited. Thank you so much. . .yes, I am so excited I can hardly stand it! This is our first big move and house so I am really wanting to get settled as quickly as possible. I am one of those people that just can't relax until everything is pretty and organized. LOL So I figure what better way to spend the "in-between" time than get everything I need for the house. here is the ebay link for the side tables. I think I am going to replace the clear knobs for something darker. . bronze or something of the sort. What do you think of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...em&item=380436465051 OH. .and I have looked at Homegoods (love that place!!). They have had a couple mirrored tables but nothing that was as good of a deal as this ebay listing yet. I am hoping to make my way to TJ Maxx, Ross and Marshalls soon. This message has been edited. Those are NICE! And they have storage! I can't believe you get a matching SET! Your Master bedroom is well on it's way! I know how you feel about being excited, I am trying to decorate our retirement house and we just don't move as FAST as we used to and decorating in slow motion is a drag! lol Will be watching for your posts on your progress! Thank you! I know. .I love that there is storage in them! I can imagine how frustrating moving in slow motion would be. I am horrible about that ..once I get an idea I RUN with it. LOL I noticed you are in FL. So are we! We are in Tampa. . .of course, getting ready to ship out of here to TX. But I have been here 20 years. Grew up in Naples and have been in Tampa for the last 5 years or so.

OH how cool! both of us Floridians! Make sure you leave room in our decor for staghorns! You know Texans and horns and stars in their decor! Also, my DH's brother lives in Texas so we'll be visiting there in the future. My BIL lives way west of Houston. My DH's nephew lives near Tampa, but we have not ventured over there to his house yet. I have been in this area Mid-East coast for only about 2 yrs now. We used to live in Fort Lauderdale, too busy there now. I have a friend in Naples, she used to post on here a lot some years back named Liz. Naples is a pretty area, and I intend to visit there soon cause they just got a Trader Joe's! I have been to Texas a couple of times from Dallas to Loredo. This message has been edited. Ok .. so i just started another topic relating to my living room. I didn't want to combine the two and get confused. LOL Would love everyone's opinions on the living room too!
Just wanted to show you what I have pieced together so far. I have the Euro Sham, standard Sham, 2 accent pillows and 2 lamps. I found these lamps at TJ Maxx today. They are the perfect shade of blue and I think will look great on top of the mirrored nightstands. I am taking back the quilt I got from Macy's yesterday and am getting a quilt that matches that cream Standard Sham that is in the picture and then I ordered the DKNY Willow Linen Duvet Cover to fold up for the texture. I am still on the search for a bedskirt though. What should I get . .blue? I'm worried cream will blend too much but worried that the blue bedskirt would be too much blue? Thoughts?? ![]()
I am liking those lamps and the front pillow with the texture looks good with your inspiration pillow! I am not sure about the skirt, I would go with blue so that the comforter does not just fade into the bed skirt. Once you have your hardwood flooring, that skirt will still look nice. You are blending your new purchases with those pillow colors nicely! I love the texture of that light color pillow too! Pretty soon you will be giving out advice to all us other posters as to how to find nice things for less! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
Thank you so much! I just can't wait to see it all together. This next month is going to go by so slowly .. like waiting for Christmas! LOL I ordered the Duvet last night, so I think the only thing left is to actually order those mirrored nightstands and get a bench to go in front of my window. Oh wait. . .one last question. Here is a picture (I apologize for the quality of photo). The room has 3 windows on one wall. . what should I do for draperies? Again, this picture is of the prior owners stuff. . not mine. I am not sure I like the idea of 4 separate panels. . .but not sure what to do. Thoughts?? ![]()
Depends on the sunlight coming in. If (because you live in Florida you understand) the sun is direct and creates heat in the room, you will want some insulated drapery that can close. This will make the room cooler in the afternoons. DH likes a way to make the bedroom dark so that when he works late and needs to sleep in he can shut out the light. The drapery in the photo seem stationary to me. The blinds (if they stay with the unit) are good for privacy so you do not need to get the drapery right away. If you do drapery that works, you will need a long rod situation, I would put drapery on the ends when not closed for maximum light, if that is not your concern, you can do separate rods for each window, depending on the space you have, drapery hides the wood, and does not show it in the photo. Looks spacey and light, lots of room for your end tables! And bed shows as you walk in so nice bedding makes a presentation as you walk in. When you get to the hardwood stage, this room will change so much, and you will love it! It looks good in the meantime too! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
Well, keep in mind this is the previous owners stuff. . not mine. Yes, it does look like she put stationary drapes up. I don't like the way they look. I, also, was thinking about putting along rod across the top and two panels on each side. And her bed is a king size and mine is a queen size, so there will be even MORE room for my tables. Yes, I agree that the room will totally change with the hardwood floors. I really can't wait for them, but I am gonna have to. LOL Hoping towards the end of the year we may be able to get them done.
Yes, I realized that was the previous owner's things. I like the idea of one long rod myself, but it depends on how you want to use the room and window treatments. We are in the process of tiling our house with wood plank tiles. It is a long process because we have to move things to do each room. This creates chaos! So, I understand about having to wait until we get to the finished floors stage! I swear, right now we are living in the 'under construction' phase! lol Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/
