If you are looking for a basic table/desk have you looked on Craigslist? There's usually lots of Ikea stuff there that will likely be much less than $65.

I do not like that it does not have a lower keypad shelf. Carpal tunnel syndrome sets in with time spent on computer. I would suggest what Lucky suggested and check out Craigslist for a good table type desk with computer keypad drawer. If he uses only a lap top, that keypad height is better than table height for the keyboard use. And it can push away when he is done with lap top and have desk space for other homework or use.
There is a college near where we live (about an hour away) and lots of students sell their desks at the end of their stay, lots of deals to be had.
Good luck in your search!

One thing to note: the support bar runs at the bottom - it will either bend from use as a foot rest or will get in the way of items you might otherwise store under an open desk like that. Plus if you need to vacuum, you don't need to move the desk to get at the 6-12 inch gap behind it.
We always have basic Herman Miller style desks on our CL - many different lengths and the support bar is at the top and towards the back. plenty of room underneath it for the PC tower, a paper box/wastebasket and other items that need a temporary spot. I got ours for $50.
ETA: also, it lacks grommet holes - very handy for keeping cords under control. JMHO

Junk collector, Good example, that desk you show had double duty as a support bar AND also being a modesty panel. That is for a woman to sit (in the olden days, lol) facing the door and she would be wearing a skirt, this would prevent viewing that area of her body when someone entered the room or could see from across the room.
I like your suggestion of grommet holes for the pesky wire control.
I have a temporary table I use and have my PC on the floor along with a trash container.

Ultimately, you have to get what works best for you, but for me, the tighter the space, the more I look for double-duty furnishings which also have storage. I probably wouldn't buy a desk with no drawers. But, if you have ample storage in there and he only needs a desktop, then that might be what you need.
have you ever thought of lofting his bed (if full or smaller twin)....that would allow for exta floor space...This message has been edited. Last edited by: sjf,

I like the last one you pictured. Have you thought of two file cabinets with a small door or board across to make a desk. You might not have enough room but am sure your son could use the drawer space. Another thing....how about one of the larger end tables that has a base that fits under the bed or couch. He could pull it up to his bed to do homework.
I actually did some measuring in sons room last night where I would put a desk and I am definately going to need something slim.
14 inches deep (the ikea glass desk) would be too slim, 23 inches (the Kolhs deks) would be the max I could do. A desk top of 19 inches would probably be perfect.
At this point, where I have in mind for the desk would be in front of his window so attaching a desktop to the wall isnt an option unless we re-arrange his room to consider a desk area somewhere else besides in front of the window.
