I have a fireplace mantle where the wall behind it is slanted due to the ceiling angle. On one end of the mantle the wall behind is higher than the other end of the mantle. What can I do to avoid the taller to smaller objects all the way across? Or is that my only option? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the boards!

I understand what you're describing but don't know exactly how I would approach it.

There are lots of good decorators here and someone will know. I'd probably look through web sites and see if I can find something similar and see what they do.

We'd had two residences like that, and we've ignored the slant. We also minimized the contrast between wall and ceiling, allowing the eye to go to the decor instead of the visual clutter created by a strong contrasting wall/ceiling.

We have one like yours, and as index lady said....just ignor it and decorate like you would if it weren't slanted.

I have pictures of mine, I'll be glad to post a picture of it if you'd like.

If you are a Symmetrical person, then create (or add molding to create an over mantel) your Symmetrical arrangement and keep it within the square or rectangle visual space you create.

If you are an asymmetrical person, then go with the one-side taller arrangement where the ceiling is taller and arrange items to follow the ceiling line.

I hope you will post photos when you decide, I know there are others with this situation who would love to see your solution!

Our last home in Louisiana had the fireplace on a wall just as you described. I did the same as the previous posters did, just ignored it.
