As in when you get a "bright" idea. Not really an idea so much as a realization. I've been having a sparring match with myself over decorating our house. I like this or that style, these or those colors, trying to be opposite from who I actually am, listening to what is "correct", basically driving myself crazy. Then I realized to be who I am, even if I'm finding that my "style" isn't exciting. Then as I was looking for an area rug, finding ones I liked, I found "the" one I love. Love enough that I'm buying 2 (1 for the LR & 1 for the BR) It's what some others may say is "boring" and lacks color but it hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw it. And to buy the same rug for 2 different rooms?!?!? I've been dreading the decorating process for so long and now I'm just excited to get going. First though, we need to declutter this house. I, not anyone else, need to love the house I make into our home. Anyhow this is "the" rug:
Lovely muted shades and minimal pattern make this rug one you won't soon tire of. The bottom line is "be true to yourself" when it comes to decorating otherwise, you won't be happy in your own home. I applaud your ability to follow this wise decision and the desire to reflect your personal style. RE. buying two rugs in the same pattern, I liken this approach to buying two colors in the same shoe. If you LOVE it, why not? ENJOY!

BEAUTIFUL!!!I love that rug.A very good choice you made.
I decorate my home for me & kinda for DH too.It makes me happy and feel good.I decorate spring/summer,fall and Christmas.I cant just stay with one style.
How wonderful to find something that spurs your creativity and decorating energies. I agree with Froo Froo that you should decorate in the colors that make you feel happy, even if they are neutral colors.

Plenty of beautiful homes are based around neutrals. Personally, I love minimalist contemporary style, but this rug could fit in so many styles. If you are inspired, just keep going, it will turn out beautifully.

MB, great choice, I love the muted tones and I'm glad you found something that you love. All that matters is that you love it. I think you said that your family didn't much care about the decor didn't you? if that's the case, have fun with it.
