We need to replace the coffee table with something kid friendly. We are thinking of an upholstered ottoman. Not sure what color or shape? or if there are other ideas that are kid friendly. Our sofa is black suede with gray. The walls are blueish gray and beige. The carpet is brown, beige, blue. Our tile is a reddish orangish. Thanks

Are you afraid of the sharp edges of the coffee table you have? I like the openess of the one you have but a storage ottoman would be good too....(toys can be hidden). Without seeing the other side of the room, may I suggest you turn your rug the other way....putting the feet of your sectional on the rug?

If you want to keep that one, used to be that you could get corner covers.

If you want to replace, an oval shape would not have sharp corners.

My sister had glass in the center of her living room tables and they survived her two boys. They did have a big rec room in the basement.

If you are asking about surfaces that are kid friendly, not sure what to tell you.

Agree about the rug, although you may need a different size. The existing rug appears too narrow.

Wow, the sectional overwhelms me. Do you need that much seating? Could another configuration be used to break it up? Dual focal points? Sufficient lighting?

WRT your coffee table, my first thought was a rectangular leather/pleather/vinyl storage ottoman for relatively easy clean-up, given the current sectional configuration.

Have you considered going neutral on the walls? An accent color for contrast from neutral walls? BTW, I'm sure you realize your artwork needs to be placed lower and be large-scale.

I know it, the sectional is huge but we cant get new furniture right now. So we are going to make this work. And the rest of the room is kinda small to break it up. So if we go with the ottoman, what color do we get?

A single or two individual storage ottomans upholstered in ultra suede (or leather) will serve you well. Keep in mind that some are round in shape tho you need not necessarily opt for round since they will be padded. Storage feature is key. Twin ottomans can be pulled around the room or as individual service tables (use a tray) as needed. I also agree that a larger rug that will allow at least the front feet of your seating to rest upon it will anchor your grouping. As for color in ottomans, pull a color or a neutral from your fabrics.

Also, what is that iron ornamentation we can barely see...a wall hanging? If so, it's way too high. It should be close enough to the sofa so it's not floating in a disconnnected manner. If your ceiling is lofty, then keep scale to the entire wall area, the sofa and the art's proximety to the sofa as well. That ornamentation may be too small in scale on it's own. Also, address your lighting needs. I only see one torchere lamp in the pic and of course I don't know what's going on in the rest of the room. I realize you didn't specifically ask these additional elements, but hope I am of help nonetheless.

Thanks for the input. I added two more pictures of the space. I know theres a lot of kaos in it right now. But we eventially want an electric fireplace with the tv mounted above. Then I wanted to put a tree in the corner. There is a light for a table but we cant find a table to fit there. And the wall hanging above the couch was just something we had. I would love suggestions of what to put up. Its a huge space to fill.

Thanks for the additional pics. Indeed, the wall hanging is way too small (and high) for the lofty wall. Consider things like a tapestry, a rug, grillwork, wall decals (do a google for an array of styles), enlarged photos, large framed posters. Framing fabric or papers are frugal alternatives too.

How many peices is your sectional? Can it be put in two peices? Then I would think you could divide the sectional and make another arrangement. Not liking the back of the sectional against the half wall and there is no room for a table around your sectional. Poor little table in the corner with the lamp, looks all alone. Is there any way that you can put your sectional in the part of the room where the TV is and put the TV on the long wall under the too high wall peice? I am sure you are haing a hard time arranging this room. Your babies are the important thing.
