I really really really love the looks of these for my kitchen (hanging over the bar area) but I thought I remembered being told that they were not good. Something about them being clear, which made them too bright and too dusty.

I want to hear opinions again. This is the style I'm talking about. I love this look but it also needs to be practial.

Or these, since they're smaller

I really like them, but having to clean them all the time would drive me crazy.

That's what I think too but I guess I'm holding out hope that people will respond with positive comments. Hey,a girl can dream, right?

I love these myself! But the bare lightbulb look will get to you as you keep having it affect your eyesight when looking AT the direction they are hung. GLARE!

My solution, IF I found one I would love to have.... is get some etching cream, tape off a stripe where the bulbs are and then etch that part of the shade only IF you want to see the post under or over the bulb. That should cut down the halo around the bulb and also the glare.

I prefer the second style for over a bar in a kitchen. I like the clear globe being turned downward. The first light would catch all the dust and be extremely noticeable. That style would not be easy to clean since the globe is turned up and clear. The other style would look good in your home and would not be that difficult to clean. I like them. The dust would not collect inside the globe just be on the outside so that would be simple to clean. Good luck.

FM, I dont' have those exact lights, but I do have a new one over my sink that is clear glass and I use an Edison bulb in it (which came with the light fixture) and I love it. Of course it will have to be cleaned on occasion but I don't notice glare. I love mine.
My globe is turned downward so I guess easier to clean than the upward style.
Let us hear what you choose...

ETA~I think they give off much more lighting with the clear glass...

I think if we go with clear glass, it definately needs to be "down" to keep the dust to a minimum, like Paintlady said.

We have these clear glass pendants in the living room, but they are enclosed. We only need to dust the tops every few months.

If they were in the kitchen I know I would have to get up there and clean them with a degreaser.

My sister has just hung the 2nd one in her kitchen. The light bulb, when on, is bothering her. It is very bright & hurts the eyes. She is going to try and raise the light to above eye level, but not sure it will look right. You would have to keep it clean, because it will show dirt & dust easily. It looks so beautiful turned off & in a magazine, but maybe not the most practical choice.

Lovely glass pendant are shown here. But it is not for the kitchen. It will be best suit in the rest room or drawing room.
