This is the only the ONLY place for me to put up a corkboard/message center so that we SEE it DAILY.

I really don't want to see pinned up notes and papers but I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and do it.

I can do 1 or 2 things. Take the mirror down and put up the corkboard/message center in it's place

OR

leave the mirror and put it on the wall space to the right of the mirror.

I'm going to either make or try to find a pretty decorative framed one...

So centered over computer area or off to the right? What do you think?

Or one other option looking at my picture, what if I did a slim corkboard propped up on the turquoise table right under the mirror.

Could you use the mirror some way? Sticky notes? Dry erase markers? Just an idea.

For instance, I printed out a sheet from school that had a couple things coming up next week and I want to be able to put up so we see it rather than write it down on a calendar..I really don't want to tape up a piece of paper on the mirror.

Seriously, the bigger the better. We have one just for the 2 of us and its full. Somehow you need to see daily lunch schedules, school activities, invites, etc to function efficiently. Try the mirror in another location if possible as I think one propped up would keep falling down or behind the turquoise table.

Could you do several smaller cork boards, perhaps one for each child plus a family one? You could hang them vertically to the right of the mirror. They could be painted different colors or all the same. Used frames are often very inexpensive at thrift stores.

IMO cork boards need to be monitored or they become places that accumulate a lot of unnecessary junk. I no longer have one but use calendars, sticky notes, and computer generated lists. I realize they can be very handy for children to encourage responsibility tho.

Just a thought:
If you normally do not stack things on the turq table surface...how about a large piece of clear plexiglass on the top? Put some stick on "bumps" in the corners and slip notes and schedules under the plexi?

In our tiny toilet area downstairs we have a very big corkboard with a mirror hung on it. You could achieve the same look by putting pieces of cork around your mirror.

Or you could use the mirror itself as your message board, sticking cards and notes into the frame and writing on the mirror.

Actually I have never used a cork board as a message board or even had a message board. I use cork boards for interesting things I want to look at.

If we think of it we put notes for appts on our large calendar which is inside a door.

Another idea, Always would be to get those prong things that are meant to hold photographs, know what I mean? You could put them on your turquoise stand and then the notes etc in the holders. I think there are 8 to a unit.

So cork around the mirror is like framing the frame with cork tiles...

I thought of the vertical idea too to the right of the mirror on the wall. I think verticle would look better and "on purpose" rather than another horizontal shape next to the mirror.

I have space on the left of the mirror to in the corner but I think it would be better on the right side since that is my path in and out of the kitchen.

Put up this one I already had to get an idea of how a message board would look vertically to right of the computer area.

Speaking from a simply visual perspective (not user) I think the bulletin board would look better lined up exactly with the cupboard.

Maybe with longer term things pinned up high?

I think it looks good but I would raise it a little higher....top even with the top of the mirror maybe. OR how about getting a narrower one and put it as a backsplash for your cupboards. I do like the one you have though. We have cork squares on the back of our cupboard doors and use thumbtacks to keep important dates/appointments on but it is out of sight and you want something that is visable. What you have looks good.

I think lining it up with the cubboard might be too high. I will try lining it up with the mirror.

If don't know if the backsplash area would be enough room or if my eye would go to it enough.

I think the biggest thing is getting in a habit of checking notes/dates etc wherever your message center is...I have a real hard time with that...

Your children are young enough that having it at their eye level and allowing them to pin notes to themselves and/or to you will help them develop organizing skills now. I think in this case function not appearance is most important.

I have to laugh, I said that basket under the corkboard is for my purse and there it is sitting on the table!! BUSTED!!

In that area looks best. I like your mirror and think you should keep it. You can put fabric on your corkboard if you want to dress it up a little. I love the idea of little ones. I saw one on a blog yesterday and I will see if I can go find it. Something for the future...as you perfect it.

DD pinned up her 100% -0 test up on the board last night!!

I like the look of the mock up VG did. You could just hang empty frames if you want.

Isn't there a name for the style of wall picture hanging that VG mocked up? I could have swore there was thread not too long ago and I even posted a picture of a wall a bunch of different pictures on it and comment how I liked that look...

Always, I've always referred to it as a picture grouping or a picture wall?

I like it with or without the extra wall art.

How about adding a very narrow shelf or narrow mantle ledge underneath the bulletin board?
