Ok so I have a very traditional style.
Right now we have a vinyl flooing that is damaged and need replacing. I am thinking engineered hardwood (on cement slab) or maybe a bamboo. My only concern is that the bamboo won't go with the style of the rest of my home. Any opinions? I like the movement in the bamboo, I think it is just to casual maybe for my home. |

Crystal, there are different styles of bamboo. One you see lots of the knubby parts which is definitely more casual and one that looks more like traditional wood floor. I think the are called horizontal and vertical but don't quote me on that. It is the difference in how they cut the bamboo. I used to have a site bookmarked that had some info I'll look and see and get back with it if I still have it.
Here is the link bamboo floor If you scroll down to the middle of the page you can see the 2 different cuts. This message has been edited. Last edited by: debicga, *Debi* ~*Never trade the thrills of living for the security of existence*~ |

Definately look at the bamboo again. I, too thought it to be more contemporary, but like debicaga said, the vertical (I think that was it) looked just like wood. The lady at the store said it was stronger than HW also.
Keep us posted on your decision! |

Crystal, have you considered prefinished hardwood? I think it would look nice in your home. You could choose just about any color you would like. Here's an interesting article about flooring. Thought you might want to take a peek.

Debicga, thanks for the link. I think the vertical looks really nice. I will definately keep looking into the bamboo.
Melk, thanks. It will still be awhile as we won't start till we do the kitchen (2 yrs prolly) but I'll let you all know when it happens. Joy thanks for the link. I am looking at engineered hardwood as we are on a slab and have to really accomidate the indiana weather and the wood shrinking and expanding. I know I don't want laminate or vinyl again. |
