I had company for lunch today and this was my table.

Antique lace tablecloth, antique nankins in silver napkin rings, Aynsley plates, an orchid for a centerpiece flanked by two ceramic birds.

It was a birthday lunch and the centerpiece orchid was the birthday girl's gift.

So SPECIAL! Beautiful!

Are those gold bottoms on the glasses? (gold color glass) Love that!

I have some dessert dishes that would match that color from Pier One not antiques.

MR -- not gold but amber. Matched the border on the plates.

The menu for the party:

butternut squash soup (from Joy of Cooking)
Crab Quiche and a salad of roasted apples, roasted pecans, feta cheese and greens with a cider vinaigrette, green onion foccacia and Ina Garten's chocolate ganache cake (which is decadent and easy!)

Yes, I will be posting some of them on my blog -- lflinderhof.com -- probably Wednesday night. You can google Ina Garten chocolate ganache cake and find the recipe. It has a can of Hershey's syrup in it!

The salad is just roasted apples (roasted like you would roast vegetables) and roasted pecans. Add some greens -- but not too much -- you want it to be more of an apple salad. Two tablesspoons of olive oil and 1 T. of cider vinegar and toss the salad. Add salt and pepper and then on the serving plates, shower with cheese -- I used feta this time but I really prefer bleu but our store didn't have any!

Martha,
Sounds great, just bought Gorgonzola and looking for a reason to start eating it! LOL

I love all types of blue cheese and treat myself to some at least 4 times a year. And I like to try new ways to have it, this year, my new try was blue cheese with braised pears and pecans, yummy! My favorite was always the 'wedge salad' with a wedge of lettuce and blue cheese dressing (just the two ingredients) and some great red wine of course! We used to order this at the Steak and Ale restaurant we would go to in the Fall season. They called it 'the wedge'.

Never had it with apples though, sounds good.

frappe,
LOVE your avatar!
