Would a wall stencil look good in this empty corner space? Any ideas?

Your room looks very nice, pts79. Do you really need something in that corner? Personally, I would leave it and let the clock be the star but that's JMHO.

Thanks, astroluvr, you don't think it looks a little empty there? The clock is supposed to be the focal point, but now it kind of looks like it should be scooted over or something. The ceiling vaults right above it and it is centered right under that, but I can't help looking at the room and seeing an awkwardness of the what I think is too low of furniture of which there is nothing I can do about that part. Maybe I'm just over thinking it.

Nice room. I think you need to switch the table from the corner with the one by the recliner.
The taller lamp belongs in the corner, the wall looks off-kilter to me. JMHO

I agree, jaysmom49, that it looks off kilter. The table and the lamp in the corner are identical to the table and lamp next to the recliner though.

I made a suggestion on your other thread so will only address the topic of wall stencils on this one.

I don't think that corner is crying out for a wall stencil and they are a very personal accessory so if you like them I urge you to use one. My opinion of them is that they are overdone and one almost never sees any in high-end homes. However there are a lot of things in many of *our* homes that are never in high-end homes so that shouldn't stop anyone. Just my personal opinion that most wall stencils are not "my cuppa tea" altho there are some nice ones, especially figurative ones, not words.

I did have a couple more thoughts, pts, but stopped b/c you'd only asked the 1 question.

The painting is probably centered on the wall - I would consider centering it on the sectional. The clock appears good under the beam.

Was wondering previously if the room had a focal point out of frame, e.g. a f/p on the other side. Sounds like no, if the clock's your focal point. (That's what I previously assumed, too.)

It feels as if the furniture's at attention, all placed along the walls. I would try floating some or all of it and grouping a seating area around the center of the room, highlighting the clock. When you do that, you'll probably want a long, narrow coffee table placed down the center, in the middle of the furniture.

Just looked at the sectional. Can the chaise be flipped? Or removed and separated? BTW, unless the room is much larger than it feels from this photo, the recliner appears large for the space. Do you have two nice chairs (say with open arms so no recliner) to place opposite either the loveseat or couch portion of the sectional? BTW, one of your small tables will work inbetween the two chairs.

Hope that makes sense. I would move things around until I liked it. Can't see the corner table to comment on jaysmom's idea. Not sure which wall she was referring to but the painting jumped out at me the 1st time I saw it.

Please send us an updated photo, if you make any changes, pts. It's already a beautiful room so you're in good shape!

ETA: Oops, one more thought. The painting will probably look good centered on the wall, if you float the furniture.

I know what you mean, joyluck, about stencils that's why I'm hesitant. I have used them before in other places and liked them, but not sure if here is a good place.

Astroluvr, thanks for the thoughts! My room's focal point is the TV. This is where we live, read, watch TV, visit, etc. I am trhing to attach another picture so you can see what a person sees when sitting on the couch, but it isn't letting me again, doggone it. If you sit on the couch and and look back this way...to the left you will see a large brick fireplace with a large window on each side that takes up the whole wall. The TV is in that corner hanging from the wall. Right next to the TV is a sliding door that takes up that whole wall, then there is a stair step leading up into the kitching and dining room areas.

We spent a lot of money remodeling and opening up this room, one of which was to take a weird outside door and replace it with sliding doors so we could see outside. Because of this we don't want to move the TV to another place and have our backs facing the doors.

It's an incredibly hard room to decorate. It's 28x14, if I remember right, rectangle shaped with a fireplace and 2 windows taking up one wall and sliding doors taking up another. The only place to put furniture is where it is now, along the long wall where the big picture is and the shorter wall with the big clock. All you are seeing is new, which we tried to design specifically for that corner area to take up space. We ordered one specific cough that was to take up more space, but it came in wrong and we are waiting on the replacement which will be about 3 inches longer than this one and the chaise will attach to it on that side and can't be switched to the other side.

Yes, the recliner is freakishly huge. My husband personally picked it out and it was supposed to go with the couch and loveseat, but I had no idea the couch and loveseat were going to be so low along their backs. With trying to get specific measurements (length), we had to order out of catalogs at the furniture store. I definitely would not have ordered them with such low backs, but I had no idea. If I had seen them in person in the store first then that would have helped. Note to others DO NOT order from a catalag without knowing all the specifics! Other than that, they're fine, but now I have to make do with what I have and figure it out.

I feel like I'm rambling! I hope I gave you some more insight into my room and why things are the way they are!

I usually don't make decorating suggestions because I doubt my abilities -- but my first thought when I looked at your pic was to center the clock on the loveseat -- i.e. the 6 on the clock lining up with the center seam on the loveseat.

I thought of trying that, but hadn't yet. The clock is centered with the beam on the ceiling, so I didn't know how that would look off as well.

I agree the corner looks a wee bit off, but I also agree that it doesn't need anything like stensil there..What I would do, for what my suggestion is worth, is to either put a taller lamp in the corner, or just try raising the lamp on some books to make it taller, and see what that looks like..

Little confused by your post - isn't the clock to the left of the couch? BTW, to me, the clock is perfectly placed under the beam. It wouldn't be balanced over the l.s., IMHO.

Had some other ideas for the room, given the situation you described with doors/windows/television. I believe you have some options.

Is it possible to post photos of the other walls? I can understand your frustration. I've had problems, too, ever since tptb's so-called website improvements.

Looked at the photo again and based on your post, it actually looks like the painting was actually centered on the couch, not the wall - instead of couch, including the chaise (i.e. what I should have said, above). Part of my error was b/c I didn't know that was a long wall. Tough to analyze the situation w/o complete room photos -

I think you should go for the stencil. Try something new. The room is perfectly fine, perfectly safe now. But you clearly feel like adding something. Go for it.

Ditto on a taller lamp in the corner. Leave the clock where it is.
