My daughter has moved out of her room and now I'm going to convert it to a guest room/craft room. I want to work with the bed I have, but need to make the room more mature. I'm totally open to all colors, however, the room is very small and I want it to feel serene. Also, my college-aged son will be sleeping in it when he comes home to visit - but that's a secondary point. My personal style is transitional.
What I have that I'd like to work around is a single upholstered headboard (see pic). It has a slipcover that is white with large raised polka-dots. There is also a matching bedskirt I have. The second picture is the nightstand. I know I need to start with bedding, so what would you suggest? Oh, the craft part of the room is regarding her wall of closets - it's been organized with drawers and shelves on one side and a desk with shelves above on the other side - it takes up one whole wall of the room. The system is all bright white - like the headboard.
The room is 10x10 (not including closet) with one window. The only thing going in this room is the bed and nightstand. I would post a picture of the room, but quite honestly it is a mess right now and it's hard to get a good picture since it's so small.
Here is a duvet cover I like - would this work? Not sure what color I would paint the walls, though. The main floor area and hallway leading into the bedroom is Sienna Sand (see below).
I love the bedspread and it coincidently appears to be in the same Sienna Sand color. There are several options re. wall color if you go w/ this duvet cover which btw, is quite gender neutral. One is a dark brown and contrary to those who believe that dark colors in small spaces is a no-no, dark colors receed. What's especially important is the room's lighting. Since natural light is in short supply, featuring plenty of task lighting for this craft space, is essential. I would recommend Ott lighting which crafters love due to it simulating natural light (that reveals true colors). A variety of styles are available from desk lamps to floor lamps (check your local craft stores like Micheals and JoAnns and be sure to have coupons in hand).
The dark brown wall color is neutral but if your furnishings are dark, it's not a good choice. But...if on the light side and trim is a white, it would be cozy and inviting. Factor in your flooring too.
Optionally, painting the walls in a stripe the color of the duvet color plus white is another way to go and would keep the space monochromatic which is visually enlarging. Wide horizontal bands (suggest three) in varigated hues of the spread color will expand the room.
Yet another wall color option could be a light gray or green. Both are neutral options.

Lady of Shallot - I guess my primary for the room would be crafts, but these will be put away most of the time and organized. I want the first look to be a bedroom.
