Hi. As talented as this group is, I am hoping that some of you have transformed gold framed mirrors into an oil rubbed bronze finish.

I am working on updating our powder room and I have a beautiful mirror that has a gold frame around it. It fits perfectly in the space, but it looks horrible with the new Oil rubbed bronze light fixtures, faucets, etc.

Any advice on the best technique to use to create an oil rubbed bronze finish on the frame?

Thanks!

i've been successful w/ taking black paint, watering it down til about a milky consistency, then rub it on w/ an old cotton t-shirt....

if you are wanting additional texture...look at the ORB fixture and see the different colors in there - probably some brown in there, too...

I did these brass lamps I inherited from my grandmother. Smile

Cleaned well and lightly steel wooled them, then sprayed them with primer.

and here's a close-up. My uncle was going to donate thee to Goodwill as they didn't sell in the estate sale. He has lots of this finish in his home so I talked him into letting me do them for him. He's very pleased. I am too, as I did two small things for myself. ;>

Hope this helps you do your mirror frame!

I, too, thank you both for posting your pix and twg759, as these pix were the ones I was looking for on my thread and couldn't find the posters....YEA, now I have them. Is there any way you posters can send me your steps please? If this thread gets deleted after I have saved it to my favorites it is then gone...I really want to try this project painting on our iron hand rail outside the front door as well as inside by our stairs going down..that is, if the outside one works good LOL! We used Rustoleum bronze but it really looks pewter/brownish/something. It isn't BAD but it sure isn't the look I was going for and DH was getting tired of trying to get it right! Thanks for any help, sorry, I didn't mean to take away your thread!!!

I used a spray paint by rustoleum on my bathroom light fixtures. It is called dark bronze. After it dried i took a small dry brush and brushed gold (craft) paint to highlight certain areas just to add dimension. It looks beautiful and know one can believe they werent made this way.
