has anyone put beadboard over ceramic tile in a bathroom? how did you adhere it, and how is it holding up?

I think my parents did this at their lake home years ago. I remember there being pink tile in the bathroom and they put beadboard over it. This was done at least 20 years ago so it has stayed up very well. I'm not sure how they adhered it to the wall but I'm leaning towards "Liquid Nails". I'll ask them.

I've heard of it being done before with liquid nails however I wouldn't do it, why not just remove the tiles first?

We ripped down the half walls that were covered in tile and used liquid nails and finish nails to cover up the carnage. It really didn't take that long...DH ripped it down and I collected the debris in buckets and the kids took turns taking it out to the trash.

didn't ripping off the tile destroy the walls? did you have to re-sheetrock?
