We have finally completed the upstairs remodel and will begin downstairs soon. I love my house but I have had a huge issue with the living room since we bought it. The fireplace is off center in the the wall. It can't be moved b/c the guest shower is next to it. The wall to the photo's left is all windows and it is open to the dining room and kitchen on the other two sides. Any suggestions on what I can do to make it look not - so - odd?
Thanks in advance. This message has been edited. Last edited by: pbennett3,

You have a beautiful brick fireplace. Since it can't be changed, I would move the TV elsewhere if possible, and I would put a taller object such as a faux or real tree. I might also put more than one tree; however one would be tall, and two others would be smaller and of varying heights. I would have to see it and play around with the foilage but it might balance the wall out better. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. That is a great idea. I didn't think a/b using greenery to balance it. The only problem is I can't move the TV. This is the only wall in the LR. There are 4 full size glass windows to the left and the right side and camera side are open. I would like to mount the tv on the wall to get rid of that stand and to give it a more clean, wire-free look but that ads to my dilemma!!

I would do a shelving unit on the other side and hang a flat screen either above the fireplace or incorporate it into the bookshelf (make one of the openings large enough to accommodate a t.v.)
Something like this but you can make it any way you'd like that would be functional for you.

I think VG has come up with a wonderful solution to your problem.

I love VG's solution, much neater. Blocking the corner and the window is more of a problem than that fireplace placement. Treating the whole wall as one as in VG's suggestion is a great one! AND it hides all the wires and the media storage!

I agree - and what I'm completely amazed at is how VG came up with what seems to be the exact same room! (It's not a mock-up, I don't believe.)

You guys are so right! Great idea VG. I have searched the internet to try to find the same set up as my LR and have failed miserably. Mary Ruth, you are correct a/b blocking the window. It is only 5" - 6" from the corner of the wall to the window molding. I think that would still be enough room for the TV, picture frames and other small decor. I would only have to figure out what to do with the cable box and Xbox. (The xbox has to stay with main to b/c we use it for Netflix) I thought a/b cutting out the sheet rock and trimming to fit the two boxes but I don't know if that would be a good idea since the shower is on the other side???This message has been edited. Ha, funny that I just came upon one with the same setup, surprised me too. The only thing is, it has more wall space beside the window.
PB, we have a similar situation as yours with the window. We still built the bookcases. Our solution was to not build it right to the window but to leave a little space. That way, I still have a drape added in the corner. Not sure if this is the best solution, but it works for us. Wanted to add too, you can see that our bookcases don't go right up to the ceiling, so I was able to add a rod.
The shelves can be built to incorporate everything like, plugs, boxes, etc. This message has been edited. Last edited by: victoriangirl,

Thanks for all of the suggestions. It will probably be after the first of the year before we start it but I will post photos when it is complete.

A tall arched top bookcase which can house the tv would be ideal to the left of the fireplace. The shape and height of the shelving unit would mimic the arched doorway seen to the right of the fireplace and create symmetry as well as balance.

Geez VG, you really nailed it on that one. I really like that idea.
Good luck PB3 and let us see how it works out for you.

Because it appears to be a small area/room, I would build-out the wall unit all the way up to the crown and left to the corner. That way, the eye's drawn up and doesn't stop, cutting the space off.
I personally love draperies but again, given the small area, have to wonder if they wouldn't overpower the space. My inclination would be to remove the rod and stick with the blinds.
