Once again my computer broke and I had to get a new one. I'm having trouble posting pictures from it. I know this has been discussed before but can someone give me an easy way to size pictures?

I was able to post one (on WWanda's thread) but it's too small. I can't figure out how to make it larger.

The easiest way I know of is to use Paint. When you resize the picture type in a number over a 100. Start with 125 to see if that increases the image size enough. Just remember to save an copy of the original picture before you make any changes.

I do my resizing in Paint. Select the photo. Click on Open, select Paint. Click on Image, then on size/skew. I then reduce the size by 60 percent both directions. Sometimes have to do that several time. You can use another size, whichever works for you. Then I save to desktop for posting. My photo program is Windows Gallery. My previous camera was sized differently than present camera, so try several and do what works for you. Good luck. Learned this on these message boards.

picmonkey dot come is a free very small mg program to use for resizing- inprovment photo quality as well as extras they have. it works extremely well.
I posted that for always nesting who was also having difficulty resizing and it worked extremely well.

If you are working on an Apple product I would be happy to post how I resize my pics. Otherwise, Sonny's suggestion sounds like a winner for PC users.

I've always used paint too. It's soooooo frustrating sometimes. Some pics come out larger than others. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with how "busy" the picture is? Like how many colors there are, etc. This is why I don't post a lot of pictures.

Can you tell I don't know squat about photography?

I use http://www.resizr.com/ -- it's free and very easy to use.

If you're using Paint to resize then just choose "pixels" after you hit resize. When the pixel dimensions pop up just change the largest one to 500 or 600. I use 600, if you want smaller photos choose 500.

One benefit of choosing pixels and putting a number in is that once you figure out what size you like, you can change any photo to that size. Oh...and I save the reduced file under another name. Even "original file name - 600".

Skyler -- here's what I do on my MacBook. If the photo is in Iphoto, click on it once, go to File, Export -- to desktop.

Once on desktop, double click on the photo, it should open up in Preview -- go to Tools, Adjust Size -- you will see two pixel boxes (if it is not designated pixels, use the drop down and select pixels instead of inches, cm, etc.). For the forums, I make the Width 600 pixels, the height will adjust proportionately on its own.

Then, on the menu bar, go to File, Save As. Here you can change the format of the pic -- it should be JPEG. Then you can adjust the Quality with a sliding bar -- slide it as far up as you can get as close to 150 as possible. I have found if you put it exactly on 150 it will not work, so 145 or less is good.

On the same page, give it a name, and click Save -- to your desktop, a folder on your desktop, or wherever. It is now ready to import into the forum post.

If you have copied the photo from somewhere (using the keyboard shortcut of Command, Shift, 4), then you drag the cursor diagonally over the pic, let go and it will go to your desktop. Just follow the above procedures to process the pic.

Here's a pic I did using the above, only I made each individual picture 250-300 pixels wide, then arranged them on the desktop, then took a Screen Pic (command shift 4), then processed it the same way as an individual pic. I see now that I should have made the width a little smaller.

Now, I give these instructions with the note that my Mac is 3 years old and things may have changed on the upgrades.

ETA: I came back to adjust the size to 600 pixels wide.

Thank you ALL sooooo much for all your suggestions. I was able to make the picture a little bigger but it still seems small to me.

My Life, thank you for the step by step. Is there a way to make it larger than this? Am I still not doing something correctly?

Your pic looks fine to me. Only suggestion I can make is to increase the pixels -- if the pic you have showing now is 600 pixels wide, then increase it to 650 or so.

I just tried to capture your pic -- and according to the information on my computer, it is only 437 pixels wide -- so increasing it to 600 should be no problem. This is 600 pixels wide -- but to me it has lost some clarity.

Yay, I think I got it I actually used Picmonkey, as Sonny suggested. You're right Sonny, it is very easy to use.

My Life, I was having trouble getting the clarity correct so I tried Picmonkey and it improved. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me that tutorial!

Ah! there we go. It looks great Skyler. Did you put the greenery on the candles yourself, or did you buy them that way?

I added the greenery myself. I sprayed it with glue and stuck the greenery on there. Wasn't as easy as I expected. My fingers were sooooo sticky so it was hard for the greenery not to stick to ME I think I just need more practice and I might have used too much glue. I'll try it again next year.

If anyone is looking for an easy and inexpensive hostess gift, that basket with the paperwhites is super easy.

The paperwhites were about $5 each (there are two small plants in the basket). I put them in the basket, covered the top with sheet moss, and hot glued the small pinecones to the basket.

So, paperwhites were $10 total, the basket was .50, sheet moss was a few dollars, $4 for the pinecones and wha-la! Inexpensive hostess gift or decoration for a party.

Can't take credit for the idea as I came across it when I was searching the web.

Although pretty, be cautious of whom you give paper whites or narcissus. Although you may like their scent, many of us do not...and in a big way.

It may be a genetic thing...about that flower odor, as not everyone feels this way. But although I like most flower scents, those blooming bulbs give me (and many of my friends) headaches and just have a repulsive stink. They have gone out to the garage immediately!

Just curious -- when you deleted the old avatar did you then hit the submit button at the bottom of the page?

If I remember correctly when I made the pic for my custom avatar, I think the dimensions were something like 144 pixels wide by 115 pixels long -- not sure exactly what they were, but really small.

BTW I cannot even see your avatar now -- just the icon with question mark indicating a pic has not loaded.

ETA -- oops, there it is -- the good ol' banana!

Ladies if you don't want to have to resize your pictures to upload to here you can set up your own pictures at photobucket. Then all you have to do is copy the url of a picture you have on photobucket and post it between the brackets

and it will post here whatever the size.

Also photobucket does have options for resizing, fixing red eye and more. Might be an option to check out. I've used it for several years.

....and with the photobucket thing you can post more than one picture at a time on each post.

If you enlarge a pic from a smaller pic it will definitely lose clarity. However, if when first reducing the size you 'save as' and rename it you will then still have your original large pic and can again access that and resize again from it to a different size. That way you will not lose clarity. I usually 'save as' the original name but add 'small' or add 2 to the original name. Then delete the pics that are not to your liking. I usually save the pics I want to post to my desktop so they are easy to find to post then delete after posting.

To post multiple pics in one post one needs to load them to Photobucket or another similar site, then pass your cursor over the pic, left click on the img link which will copy the link address, then paste it in the thread. Best to leave a space between each pic and a comment can be made as well in between pics. Like everything else it's easy when you know how! I *think* that's the same whether one uses a Mac or PC altho whenever I change computers I seem to need a refresher course. LOL
