I was shocked (and incredibly proud) to see this photo of a quilt I made! I hope you can read this. I had to do some creative editing because my previous post is being held for review. I guess this will be gone in the morning. The caption tells the story: "This was one of the most poignant moments of the Pres' first term. He was visiting wounded w r riors in the intensive care unit ICU at ---------, May 1, 2012. He had just presented a Purple Heart to S g t. Chase Haag, who had been injured by an I E D just hours before. S g t. Haag was covered with a blanket and it was difficult to see how badly he was injured. He was also seemingly unconscious so the Pres whispered in his ear so not to wake him. Just then, there was a rustling under the blanket and S g t. Haag, eyes still closed, reached his hand out to shake hands with the Pres."

Thank you, I am really honored to see that touching photo. I've made many, many QOV quilts by myself and with my quilt group, but never knew where they ended up. -------------- Betsy, I see you live in Spring, Tx. My son and family live there and I just returned. Welcome to the board. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Annon,

Yeah and Congrats on your beautiful quilt and finding the tale of where your wonderful quilt went and this picture.
|
So let me get this straight Annon. You make quilts that are donated to a hospital? Is that what QOV means? Please explain. And the quilt is absolutely beautiful! It is wrapping that woun.de.d S.gt. in love. Like love is tucked right around him!

That picture is so touching. Annon, you should be so proud!!!! I'm in tears.

Beautiful quilt from someone with a beautiful heart!

Thank you for sharing this womderful story and picture. I was not familiar with the Quilts of Valor project. I know this picture means so much to you. It is like a gift for all that you have done for our soldiers. Annie

I would say that is a heck of a lot more than 15 minutes of fame! Honorable work and Congrats to you and your group to see what incredible donations those quilts are! Something made by hand to warm the soldiers with QOV!!! What a wonderful inspiration for us, and what a great tribute to our country's heros that are not well. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you all for the nice comments. You're right, this means so much to me seeing my quilt covering a wounded so ldier. It's great that the Pres is there, but that's just gravy. We make these quilts, send them off, and never know where they end up. Cocok and all: QOV stands for Quilts of Valor. Our mission is to cover all wounded so ldiers with a red, white, and blue quilt. When someone enters a hospital unit, we don't want the in juries to be so startling, and all the quilts make it a better atmosphere for everyone and shows that people really do care....enough to spend our time and money making and sending these quilts. For the most part, quilters are sending these quilts off to perfect strangers, but for myself and my quilt group, they are part of our mil itary family. On a more practical side, those transport planes are not like the planes we fly in. They are huge, cold, and drafty. (I've seen them myself) Covering an injured person with a warm quilt is like giving them a big hug and saying "It will be ok, and we love you". I'm a mil itary wife and a mom, and I care. Not all our quilts go to QOV, some we send directly to the AF base in Germany, some to a mil itary hospital in San Antonio, and some we give to the individuals if they're connected to our base. Thank you for asking, and sharing my excitement. In the last few months I've kind of lost my motivation (I've made so many, I can hardly look at my red, white, and blue fabric) but I think I've got my mojo back! I really don't know how many I've made. At least twelve myself, and at least 20 something as part of a group.

Oh my gosh......I am overwhelmed by all your nice replies! I've been away from the computer all weekend, and it was just so touching to read all the comments! It's become a real commitment for me, as I've been making these quilts for years, but I've never known where they go or if anyone actually uses them. I am so honored to see this photo and it means so much to me. One time I did receive a tiny, tiny, Christmas card signed "your friends in I r a q".
