Our little town is having a "charity" auction. Crafters and artists find a chair and transform it . . . plus whatever you do there needs to be something in addition to the chair. (i.e. one did a chair that relates to the book and the book is the "something")

I volunteered, finally found a chair, got it painted and then today I finally got around to making it an auction worthy chair.

My theme?

Tea, of course. My "something" -- the winning bidder and four friends joining me for afternoon tea.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It took me a while to find the perfect chair.

I will. I have to turn it in by October 31 and then for the month of November it will be displayed in a shop window . . . then the auction is November 30. I'm thinking that my guests will want a "cup of Christmas tea"!!!!

That's adorable Martha, and still very usable and not so far off the wall that it would be impractical.

Plus what a good idea for your town! I wish you all lots of luck. Who or what is the recipient of the funds?

I'm not sure if you know of Gordon Parks? He's a famous photographer, poet, filmmaker, who was born here -- left as a teenager and is our most famous citizen.

We have the Gordon Parks Center for Culture and Diversity at our Community College. The funds from this project go to the Children's Programs at the center so it's a very worthwhile cause.

Very cute! I love the Mary Engelbreit (sp?) influence.

Saw the movie based on Gordon Parks' "The Learning Tree" many years ago and really appreciated it.

And it was filmed mostly here in our town. Several people we know are in it as extras (or with small talking parts) and a friend lives in the house that was used in the movie.
