Master bedroom furniture help
Hello,

I was hoping to get some advice on how to furnish our master bedroom. The room is a good size and has beautiful bay windows overlooking our backyard. At http://pinterest.com/amytenneycurren/master-final/ I have loaded our current ideas (after months and months of looking!). The idea is for the dark wood furniture to be in the main part of the room and the cream colored cabinet to be next to the windows with a wing chair (not yet found) next to it. The concern I have is that the dark wood furniture is too dark for a very bright room and that the one cream colored piece would look out of place with all the dark wood. I am open to all suggestions. I was looking for light colored pieces that could be used as nightstands in which case I would buy the bachelor chest for next to the window.

I really don't want a matchy-matchy look but it is very difficult to find coordinating pieces!

Also, if you have any color thoughts that would be helpful too.

Thank you for any advice you can provide!

Most people shy away from rooms with a lot of contrast, so I applaud your determination to use such opposite ends of the value scale. One of the ways to successfully transition the two is to find a pattern with both colors, that when combined give the illusion of a mid-range color. You said you were looking for a wing chair and this one illustrates what I mean. Even though the pattern is dark and light, the combination looks much more subtle. This type of pattern would also work on window treatments.

Another way to blend the two values is to pick a neutral somewhere in between them, such as taupe or beige and use it generously in the room, either in bedding, wall color, or both.

A third way is to add color accents in art and accessories. They provide visual interest and move your eye around the room.

I think you have chosen some lovely pieces and I hope you will come back and share the completed room with us.

Sharon,

Thank you so much for all of your insights -- very much appreciated! I see what you mean about the wing chair and will definitely look for something like that. I actually love that one - do you know where it is from?

It will be a while before we finish the bedroom but when we do I will definitely post a picture. Thanks again!

ATC do you have pics of your bedroom and how it is currently furnished? Pics always help the members here give answers tailored to the specific room of the HO, rather than just general decorating advice.

Also do you own any of the furniture you are anticipating using or is it all just what you think you would like.

Every room has to start somewhere, it might as well be the main furniture items. I don't subscribe to the notion you need to have everything decided on before you move into the room. You have some good basics to work with.

The posted pictures give you an idea of what can be accomplished with the addition of pattern and color.

Atc821,

You have some really great ideas bookmarked on Pinterest, but I'm just curious if you've considered Dutch Crafters? They have a really great selection of master bedroom furniture, all solid wood finishes (Cherry, Oak, Maple, etc.). I know you said you weren't looking for anything too matchy-matchy, but maybe incorporating an oak piece to go along with the selections you've already made will spruce up the room just a bit!

Here's a link to their website: http://www.dutchcrafters.com/
And be sure to take a look at their shipping policy, which usually includes some really great deals.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Hi all
Thanks for all the suggestions and sorry for the delay in posting pics. It has beena busy couple of weeks. @lady of shalott you might notice the print hanging in the bedroom!

Any additional thoughts anyone might have would be appreciated. I will post final pics after we finalize the room. (probably in a few months)
