We are painting living/kitchen/bath/hallway...(all connected). Pro Mar 200 is what my painter uses, I'm sure cause he gets a good deal, I've decided on flat for our walls we really don't want to see shine on the walls and the sample can paints are really shiny. Yes, I know I will have touch ups and washing when I can(3 young kids). The paint store guy said the ProMar 200 was an inferior paint and I'd be better off with the higher quality ones. Maybe so if I was doing the painting but it would be hard to change paints with our contractor and his pricing. Is it really a bad paint or do they just want me to spend more. Your thoughts???

Never have heard of that brand before. Please remember the old adage -"you get what you pay for". Does Consumers Report list it as a major brand?

I would use a better paint. It shouldn't be that hard to change with your contractor. There should be a pricing breakdown with labor and paint as separate expenses. If you have to pay a a bit more for better paint it will be worth it. The labor charge shouldn't be any different.

Different areas of the country may be different but here in N.J. B.M. Pro-Mar 200 is considered "builders special" grade. It is what all the painters use on mid grade new construction. It's fine as a base coat to show a house or condo but it is bargain paint and doesn't hold up for the long hall.

Cheap paint is not a bargain, unless you are a DIYer and do the painting yourself, and get bored easily with color. Pro mar is difficult to clean and will need to be repainted much sooner than a higher quality paint.

Which flat paint would you recomend for a flat paint with children present. Without breaking the bank? Is superpaint a good choice?

SP flat will not withstand washing very well. SW has sales regularly - get the 30% off on Duration or try BM Regal Select Matte.

Ive heard duration flat is really an eggshell finish is that true? What sbout cashmere?
