There are numerous easy patterns out there. The simplicity, "sewing for dummies" ones have really simplified step by step instructions. I found them very simple to follow. These patterns are 1/2 price at Wal Mart

Wow...I planned to come online this morning to ask the same thing except I was going to ask in the sewing board. I'll check out the Simplicity pattern. They are often on sale at Hancock's for 99 cents.

I think there are some fairly easy directions on the Room by Room site (if it's still on!).

I have really easy direction for Roman Shades. I direct you to hire somebody else to make them like I am planning on doing...LOL!!! Just kidding.

Good luck but I really am planning on just paying somebody to make mine. Not sure if they would be hard or easy to do but I know I just don't have it in me right now to make them myself.

Please let us know how they turn out. I would love to see pictures once you are done.

LOL! Now there's a good idea! I was going to do that, too. However, I had 5 windows in the room where I wanted the Roman shades and couldn't really afford to hire someone to make them at the time, so I made them myself. I am glad I did, because I saved a TON of money. It also gave me such a great feeling of accomplishment when I was done.

Those look pretty simple, too. However, they are more tailored than the others, being the type that you sew in pockets for the dowels. Both are nice; I guess it depends on the style of Roman shade you want.

    Thanks goldiesmom, jjmwebdesign!

Yes, I made the rooster valance too. They are made out of primed light weight canvas. I found the stencil at the local craft store. I have seen this stencil online also. Tomorrow, I won't be home, but on Wednesday I will find the name of the company who make the stencil. For pleated roman shades, jabots and valance I did not use any pattern. For roman shade without pleats I must have use a free pattern from the Calico Corner store.
