After a extended period of time away, I'm back..Some of you will remeber me hopefully, as I appreciated all your help and ideas..
After a very long event with our house in realty and selling twice (but didn't sale becuase both couples broke contract-- EACH TIME WAS LESS THAN 24 HRS BEFORE CLOSING) ---- very long story) .. I am trying to finish up some projects I had ongoing before moving out and selling my furniture ..
I am attaching a photo of the master bedroom we had just redone before the house sold.. I haven't took one since moving back in.. the only thing that has changed is some new art-here n there..and since the chaise got sold it has been replaced with a chair and ottoman.
Heres my question? I have bought a very large area rug 11 x 13 to put under/ around bed area.. How should such a rug be placed.. Under bed totally with a little hanging out, or how.. ? I am stumped.. I wanted the rug becuase it has all my brown and copper colors to help break up all the beige carpet..This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
i also have a sitting area (chaise has been replaced by chair and ottoman). i bought a samller version of rug, just in case i wanted one for this area , or both.. any ideas???
Welcome back. Your selling of the house pitfalls must have been a nightmare. So sorry.
Regarding the rug under the bed, if it's not wide or long enough to be visible running the length of the bed it will serve no purpose. However, I have seen bedroom area rugs on the diagonal off center of the bed so a good portion is exposed. Small area rugs can flank a bed or be placed at the foot of a bed. I can not comment regarding the placement of the second rug except to advise you to try it in the seating area. Consider the purpose of the rugs...pattern (?) color(?) texture(?) anchor a grouping(?) warmth under foot(?) define or call attention to an area(?) sound buffer(?)This message has been edited. thanks Froo.. my main purpose is color & pattern.. I would like to add something other than the brown from my faux finished walls, and beige of teh carpet.. I have copper curtains which I love, but I feel i just need more color since there is so much of the brown and beige carpet.
My first thought was to run the rug just under foot of bed and towrds frebnch doors and bath doors(i really didn't want to set bed totally on top of rug and hide the pattern)This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
i unrolled rug.. was thinking on placing it this way(but some under bed of course).. i am going to be getting a foot of bed bench once i find what i am looking for.
Any ideas or comments.. i don';t love it as much as I did in package.. the package showed a more orangey- coppery color
and please excuse mess.. we are still trying to move back in and situate everything again..This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
Try the rug partially under the bed but angled. If you run it in the direction of the bed as you now have it, even if it's partly under the bed, it will look too small and the greater part of the pattern will be concealed. I think if it were me I'd find two matching smaller rugs and place them on both sides of the bed. Optionally, buy a rug with an overall print or border print that is considerably larger than the bed. Obviously, the latter option will be more costly.

I took a second look at your pic and it appears that the room is too narrow to accommodate that rug on the diagonal. Perhaps the two smaller bedside rugs is more suited this room's layout or purchase an oval rug for the foot of the bed.
Keep in mind that there are other ways to bring more color and pattern into this space. Some are: art, framed papers or fabrics, bedding, pillows, window treatments, a floor screen, an upholstered chair.

thanks Froo. I am going to get my husband and friend to help put rug partially under bed tonight. I will take some better pics of the space.. The room is actually 17 ft wide, so it actually isn't narrow.. the total bedroom is 17 x 35 ft.. I have brought in color with my copper curtains which I love, and I have an upholstered chair. I have a large copper piece above the bed, and a few pieces of metal. I am in process of finding art, but haven't found anything. My bedding is burnt orange and tan and has to stay for now. My ceiling is also gold which helps. Maybe I can better picture it once i get it in place.
i do plan on either making a bench or buying one.. I have looked into purchasing but they all are too small and look dwarfed by me bed..
I have found a few pics of what i would like to build , but haven't had time. lol.. we are in process or redoing all our vinyl siding, front door, adding cedar shake, putting up a fence, and painting our decks.. lol
I am confused as to what is sold, staying, and what it is you are trying to do to the house that did not sell and you are staying in?
RUG: IF you are trying to match ALL the colors in the room, that is hard to do with ONE rug.
I would pick one dominant color such as the ceiling color...gold and go with that, or the drapery copper. Keep it simple so that it does not pull attention away from the other colors and what is going on in the room.
Have you thought of a round rug with some of it tucked at the foot of the bed.
A bench might not work for at the foot of the bed in this setting in this room, an upholstered ottoman (with storage inside for throws and blankets) might work nicely to carry bedding color to that area.

I have decided to return the rug and keep looking ..
Everything in the room is staying as is.. The only things hat have been changed are:
Chaise has been replaced with an upholsterd chair & ottoman. and there is now a large copper piece above bed.
I am not trying to match all colors in room. I am however especially drawn to COPPER, and burnt orange colors.I would really like to pick up more of my curtain color which is the copper.
For a foot of bed bench I am really thinking of building something like the attached picture, but big enough to suit my really big bed.the legs would be taller and not so short like this one. This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
If the bedroom floor already has carpeting I would not add another rug. I find it really difficult to vacuum a rug under the bed and when I get some strong people here I will have the rug that is under my bed removed.
