You'll all probably think I'm losing my mind buying this but I have a vision. It will be painted. I think I'm going to go with a creamy white. I'm going to hunt for some long handles too and change up the hardware. Hoping I can find a good deal in some. I've been looking for something for this area since we got a new t.v. and my chest became a t.v. chest. Home sense had a couple I liked but even marked down they were still $300.00. I went into the Habitat for Humanity store Monday and saw this one. $40.00 tax includ. The drawers all work really well and I like the amount of storage it has as well as the clean lines. It will look different once I'm done with it. The nice thing is, now I have more choices with what I can put in the entry as I have enough drawers in this to hold all the gloves and hats, etc. So, this is the before pic. I won't be able to get to it this week as we are having a garage sale and I'll be beat. I'm hoping that the weekend after that I'll get it painted. Excited about it actually. Oh and I do have a question. Would you go for one lamp with my curly sticks or two? I love the curly q's and want them on this dresser so I'm thinking that two lamps with this may be too much?. Not sure though, what are your thoughts? If you'd like to add any other suggestions, please feel free to do so. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

Wow, what an incredible deal you got! I can't wait to see you transform it. Everything you do turns out to be outstanding. I am no expert on displays, but I'll throw my opinion in anyways: I don't think I would care for two of the curly lamps on there. Would there be something else displayed on there besides the lamp(s)?

Hi VG! Wow! What a great piece for a makeover. I wondered paint/stain or something with mirrors until I re-read that you are painting. How long are the handles on the center drawers? JMHO but consider the different size drawers and plan the handles accordingly. A large round fat lamp w/ barrel shade might work well. If you could find one of those old ceramic ones and a coat of that hammered type spray paint. Have FUN and please show us the finished re-do. ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

That is one nice piece of furniture for $40. I can't wait to see you work your magic.

Sunny, thanks. The curly willow is not a lamp. I have a skinny tall lamp that I may put there, I was just wondering if two would look better. I do love the curly willow though and think that it may be too much with two lamps. BR, they are long. I looked today and noticed that they are nailed on. Should come off easily though. I'll definetly show it once it is painted. I picked up some vintage knobs at Salvation Army this week and may use those on the smaller drawers. I'll have to see what they look like. Should be a fun makeover. Tuesday, thanks. Now if I could only find someone to paint it for me ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

We picked up a piece like that at the auction when we bought our house. The longer drawers are on the ends of ours though. It's a decent piece of furniture with the wood liners between the drawers. I store my trims, sewing stuff, and fabrics in mine. Will be interesting to see it done in a lighter color. I'd probably make my accessorizing considerations after you've painted it as it will give off an entirely different vibe. I like the curly things paired with it. Christie

Great piece and a fantastic price! Perfect scale and style for that window. Your vision for it sounds perfect - a lovely rich cream next to the blue curtains - yummy! One lamp though - just to balance the curly sticks. Two would be too much.

VG, Wonderful piece! I actually like the handles that are on it already! I like the long ones the best. You got a GREAT deal! That is why I stay out of shops now or my house would be filling up again! You got that for a great price and what a wonderful project that will be! As far as lamps go, two tall will look good but not with curly branches too much tall and thin. Do you have round shorter wider lamp with drum shade? (one of those would do) if using the curly branches. This message has been edited. Christie, did you leave yours the wood tone? I love that it has lots of storage. JC, thanks. I'm thinking one lamp too. MR, if I left the handles, what would you do with them? paint them the white color too? or emphasize them with a different color? I'm going to look for long handles first though. I do have this vision but I may not be able to find them long enough. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

Nice find VG. A good piece to paint and have fun with. I'll look forward to seeing you work your magic on it.

If you do white, then silver leaf (or Rub'n Buff them) or in gold whichever your metal is. They have bronze finishes too. You can keep the tube in the top drawer for touch ups if ever needed in the future. The longest hardware will be for appliances (they look just like the kitchen hardware) and new they are around $75 each and up in price. What a wonderful piece, it actually looks pretty good just like it is, can't wait to see it all prettied up, I'm sure it will look fantastic. Keep us posted on the re-do.

I love the handles too! If you change them, be sure to save the originals as original handles increase the value of a piece of furniture.
|
I like your chest too...just wanted to mention, I have seen long handles made of wooden dowels. Then whoever did it, cut small peices of the same dowel to be used to cover the screw that attache it to the drawer front...just an idea. love life

Great price and looks as if it might be solid wood! I'm looking forward to seeing your reno of this great storage piece which will be so useful in your entry. Lee Valley has wonderful hardware altho it is a bit pricey. I'd go with only one lamp with the curly twigs and maybe a 'something' else such as a decorative box or shallow bowl to put keys in as you come in the door. Or just for decoration. You need three things for a vignette! *smile* Lucky "I have always had an aversion to the concepts of in style and out of style." ~Rose Tarlow Inspirational pics: http://inspiration4u.shutterfly.com/

Forgot to wish you well on your garage sale VG - give yourself a couple of days off after - they are a lot of work. BTW your twigs look more like curly ting than curly willow. Curly willow is irregular in it's twists and turns but ting is curled more regularly. Have wondered if ting grows like that naturally or if it's twisted around something as it grows. This message has been edited. I would keep the original hardware too. It is part of the charm of the dresser. Being a lover of symmetry I like the idea of a pair of lamps. However, I don't know how that would look in the context of the rest of your room. It is nice to have as much lighting as possible in a room too.

Neat looking project. Re lamp: 1 only -- 2 is overkill

Great piece! We've done similar in black, so I'll be interested to see it in white. I agree with Lucky...curly willow is irregular in nature, so what you have is something different maybe? What I was going to say before she brought it up was this, have you tried using only a few pieces of it in your vase (so that it's spread out a bit more)? I think it would be more interesting. Anyhoo, I think one lamp with the willow, a big basket or tray to catch "stuff" as you enter and then seasonal decor...sheesh, who am I to suggest table scapes to you? You're the queen of scaping! I'll crawl away now, embarrassed.... **Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain**

I ordered some handles today. I'm hoping they can get them since they are half the price of some that are not close to the size of these. PL, thanks. MR, I found some yesterday at a liquidator place for $8.00 or maybe they were $8.99 ea. I only need 3 of the long ones. As I said, I have some vintage ones for the other drawers. The only thing is, I'm not sure if they will be too shiny for the other ones, the long ones look like brushed but do still have shine to them. Keeping my fingers that they can get them in. Seashell, thanks. I will update when I'm done. It may take 2 or 3 weeks for the handles if they have them. Cocok, I will keep the handles. If I can't get the ones I want in, then I will use these. May, thanks for your input. I'll keep that in mind too. If not for this piece then others I'm sure I will have in the future. Lucky, it's not solid wood. It is veneered. This piece will stay where it is, which is in front of the window in the livingroom. I will be looking for another piece for the entry. Since I have this for storage now though, and it will be close to the entry, I have more options for the front entry piece. Could be curly ting (never heard tell of it though). I just threw that out there because it is the only "curly" thing I've heard of, lol. I would say that the twigs are wet and then curled around something. They are too perfect to grow that way IMO. The yard sale won't take place until next weekend now. It is suppose to rain tomorrow and I was too late getting it in the paper. I think I'm going to arrange family photos in the middle of this piece, plus a few other things I have in mind. Susan, I already ordered new handles. If they don't look good, I'm sure I can return them. We have lot of lighting in the livingroom. We have recessed lighting, two lamps and two sconces. arepo I think it's going to be fun. Belstone, thanks. I think I'm going to do an arrangement of pictures. I'll play around with it once it is done. Hey, I always like input. I am going to play around with the book cases too. I don't want the LR to be over accessorized, which is easy to do. Since we are not doing the garage sale this weekend, I may have a chance to prime and paint the piece. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****
