I can't commit!!
I've been trying to pick out fabric and paint for the two guest rooms and second bathroom and I keep changing my mind.

I thought I wanted to go one way with the back bedroom (it's pink now) and before I even picked up a paint brush I'm doubting myself. The lady I'm working with suggested that I start with finding the fabric I want to use and jump off from there but I can't find anything that I'm willing to commit to.

I see things in magazines that I like and I try to scope out similar types of fabric (I know that I can't afford the $200/sq foot fabric they used in the shoot), things that have the same feel or 'tone', but I'm very indecisive. It's very frustrating. Once I commit to something I dive in full throttle, but making the decision kills me.

I'm just venting, thanks for listening.

Oh, and I painted the 'fuscia' in the dining room the same taupe that is above it for the time being--much less distracting that way till I figure out what I want to do. Thank you to whoever suggested that. Now I just have to do the same thing to the 'blood red' bathroom.

thanks,
Margaret

Maybe time to take a deep breath, pull back, and just relax over the holiday and then pick up the project again after you have rested.

Sometimes a new approach will help. I would work out all my ideas on paper first, I used to use color pencils to color in areas that had a certain color to see if I had too much.

Decorating does not always 'fall into place' especially when the advice you are getting is not from someone standing in the room with you.

spend some energy on a plan before doing anything else. And browsing for fabric is sometimes very time consuming but the fabric does come along where you least expect it. Or buy something ready made.

Margaret, your indecision re. color and fabric are not uncommon. Much like shopping for a dress, you'll no doubt know it when you see it. Till then, don't settle. Only your eye will tell you if the fabric is perfect. The lady who advised you to find the fabric first and then draw wall color from it is spot on. Too often on here I read where people paint the walls first in a color they like and then try desperately to tie it into fabrics.

Resist the pressure to commit too readily and take your time keeping a file or storyboard to assist in each room's completion. Keep in mind these are private spaces so they need not jive w/ the scheme or feel of your public spaces. Factor in the room size, the lighting, the furnishings, the flooring and the feel you seek. Take it one room at a time and I'm sure your patience and perserverance will pay off in the end. Once one room is done to your liking, it will give you the incentive to proceed with more confidence onto other spaces. We all know that paint and fabric bring the most bang for the buck. Hang in there and make the process a fun endeavor and you'll be less stressed. Do post pics when you're done.

Margaret, Froo is so right! Just remember that it is much cheaper to change a paint color than it is to replace fabric in a room, so wait until you have the fabric you want before painting.
