Many predictions say the coming storm next week will make the 91 Perfect Storm look like a regular rainy day! Hope their predictions are wrong but hope you all are (or will be) prepared for the storm itself and possible long-term power outages.
|
Hope they are wrong as I fly to NJ next week to babysit. Be safe to all who might be affected.

East Coast of Florida just cancelled schools for tomorrow and we are under Tropical Storm warnings as the storm will stay off the coast. But strong winds and heavy rain is very likely! I feel for my East coast neighbors, but am at the ready to rev up our yet to be needed (new) generator. As of now, I'm wondering if DH and I should cancel our long awaited day trip via train to NYC Saturday even tho predictions say rain will start on Sunday in NYC. Eyes/ears are focused on this threatening storm.
|
Don't cancel your trip FRoo, even if it does rain, NYC is exciting when there is extreme weather. I remember once walking all the way across the center of 34th street from the east side to the west side in a snow storm and only two years ago walking through huge drifts (same way) on 44th street. Are you doing something fun, like shopping? We are very aware of the pending storm as we are within close range of the ocean. Going to batten down the hatches and otherwise prepare. I feel sorry for trick or treaters as it is such a big thing for them and this year it may be cancelled.

Thanks for the good thoughts! At the risk of sounding like a ****-eyed optimist, it can't be any worst than last Halloween for us! We had about 20 inches of snow, power was out for me for 4 days and Halloween was a bust! Power went out because the leaves were still on the trees and the weight brought trees down all over and killed the power lines. "We" tried to resurrect Halloween the next Friday night, but it still was a bust. Kids were so disappointed! Sure hoping for better this year!

LOS, don't know about shopping tho I did see that a series of Christmas shops are opening at Bryant Park. Perhaps I can get some holiday shopping done. DH and I are HUGE Project Runway fans and Mood, the fabric store that is a part of the show, is on our must visit list. Not going to purchase fabric, but a "Thanks Mood" T shirt is in my future. Just hoping the raindrops don't start early.

Lots of rain and winds here on the E Coast of FL today. Good luck everyone and make sure your preps are done just in case. ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

Oh boy, I hope everyone stays safe (and dry). My brother is here visiting from NYC and is suppose to fly home on Monday. He's a fireman and has already made arrangements for someone to cover for him, in case he isn't able to fly. Good news is we'll get to visit with him a little longer. Sending good thoughts to everyone who may be affected.

As two storms collide and over the next 4 days or so we all get RAIN on the East Coast. The map shows Massachusetts to Florida, but it extends further up the coast as well. Amazing to have a storm concentration in such a large area! We won't see sunshine for a few days here. Not bad for us, just some wind gusts and light then heavy rain. This morning about 6 I was awakened by the low mournful horn blasts of what sounded like a huge ship coming into the channel. An hour or so later, another ship entered. I feel sorry for people who have booked a cruise down the east coast at this time as they will be spending not much time in east coast ports, if indeed they even visit them. When I went out we had a real "pea souper" It has cleared off now but we will expect great rain by Monday afternoon.

I have witnessed flocks of birds coming from the North today, some are regular winter migrations, and I wonder if some are avoiding the weather up North, perhaps migrating early? My heart goes out to my Northern neighbors! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

DH and I go to early mass on Sundays and tho it was pretty to behold..."RED SKY IN MORNING, SAILORS TAKE WARNING" keep running thru my head. Rain is minor now, but started much earlier than predicted. Store shelves were getting bare quickly. Lowes was doing a big biz also. We're as prepared as can be. DH is driving me a bit nuts tho w/ the worries re. the generator. Thankfully he bumped into another generator owner in Lowes who displelled some of his concerns. Wishing all in harm's way, the best of luck. Stay safe!
|
...and now you have a N'oreaster coming...please tke good care.

Sign posted this morning on the news read, FEMA closed due to weather. I'm keeping those still struggling with the aftermath of both storms in my Ts & Ps. I know many of you are too.

In DD's town in Westchester county N.Y. some people are still without electricity. Took her DH 2 1/2 hours to get home from work Tues (usually 45 min) and was the first day he had gone into work (down across from WTC) in over a week. We are having a miserable day of snow rain, but not like those poor people on Long Island or Staten Island are having. BTW anyone catch Gov. Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg congratulating themselves on the wonderful job of cleanup that had been done?
