A friend told me to stop at Lowe's and get Zisser's primer. Since I was at Walmart I thought I would check there and they had it too so I got my primer and left.
Then I remembered I needed to stop at Lowe's and pick up paint chips. I noticed the primer and thought I would check and see how much I had saved.......... ![]() |

Now that most of us are watching our pennies because of escalating prices, I guess Walmart thinks they have a monopoly and have us by the....short hairs.
I'm going to make sure I check prices between the two from now on. Thanks for the heads-up. |

Annie - it is that kind of math that got us into the mess we're in!! LOL

Was it on sale at Lowe's? If so, maybe use can use the price match guarantee

ETA: Rocky, I didn't see a sale sign. They will be getting their primer back. I need to check prices better. This message has been edited. Last edited by: annie17, |

That's why I buy my formula and baby food at kmart. You really have to watch walmart...not always the cheapest at all!

Walmart has been getting expensive and I don't shop there anymore. They want you to believe they are the cheapest so you will just go there and buy. Who needs to stand on line for 30 minutes and then have a rude cashier that likes to put your banana's under a bag of sugar.

I agree with everything Donna-50 said. My New Year's resolution for 2008 was to stop shopping there, despite the fact that it is the closest and most convenient retailer to my home. In addition to the prices and lousy service, the parking lot is an eye sore. The parking spaces are too small, there are not enough cart corrals, and there are carts and trash everywhere.

I have had it with our Walmart.

I,too, have found that Walmart is not always the cheapest. Their groceries are often more expensive than other discount stores, especially the produce.

The few times I have bought groceries at our WM I felt I ended up spending 10% more than at my grocery store. They will MATCH sale prices of our local grocery stores but WILL NOT match regular prices at our local grocery store.
In our little town, we don't have much choice! But WM is always my last choice. Martha |

Wal-Mart's model is the have "loss leaders". Basically, certain items are so cheap that you feel like you have to go there (say, toilet paper), but they make their money on the other stuff you put in your basket while there.
I personally don't shop at Wal-Mart because I don't like their business methods and because physically shopping there is a pain (there is no such thing as a "quick trip" to the place). I'm happy to pay a few cents more for my toilet paper elsewhere. |

The only discount store within 50 miles of me is WalMart and I still save more money by traveling the 50 miles to a store. I love lowes and sometime HomeDepot which is next door to WalMart here. I go to the local owned grocery store and beat WalMart all the time. I do not shop WalMart unless it is to get something that is urgently needed like yesterday I needed dog food and didn't have time to go anywhere else and paid a dollar more for it. Uggghhh

Me, too. One glitch tried to charge me $69.00 for a pack of pork chops. LOL. I don't think so! I like chops but not that much |

It really works, doesn't it? I went into my first Wal-Mart in 2002, when I was in Richmond for work (I lived in Boston and the only one was a good 30 minutes north of the city). I thought it was crazy...even called my mother to tell her about it. When one opened closer to Boston, I went a bunch for cheap cereal and pharmacy stuff. But, after I read up about their practices and moving to Charlottesville (where the Wal-Mart is dirty and crowded), I resolved to shop elsewhere. I hit Target now and then for bulk necessities and have found it so more pleasant to shop there. The staff seems a little better there, too. Anyway, I barely even notice Wal-Mart on the highway now. It's easy to drive right on by! |

The ONLY store in our small town is Walmart!!! I have to drive about seven mile to get there! I get SOOOOOO mad at that stupid store!! I buy chips ahoy cookies there all the time. In the last six months they have gone from being 2 for 5 dollars to $2.77(EACH) , $2.88 and just today they were $3.28. Low prices always!! Bull !!! I think Walmart needs to change there logo "Who can we rip off Today!!! Our local grocery store is awful too! They just built a new store and raised the prices on everything !! Hate that Store! The only other choice I have is to drive about 35 miles !

Well, almost hate to admit it...but I love my local Wal-Mart. It's new, bright and shiny and much more upscale that one would imagine. It beats the heck out of Kmart in these parts.
Our local Wal-Mart competes with nearby Target, Home Depot and other retailers. We are lucky to have a wealth of stores to choose from in a 10-mile radius. We have found some terrific home decor at Wal-Mart. Case in point, a gorgeous deep chocolate brown shower curtain in a fabric that simulates silk duppioni for less than $20 -- NO KIDDING. It's for our guest bath and visitors rave about it. I have yet to find anything comparable in price or appearance at Tuesday Morning or Linens 'N Things. As for foodstuffs, Wal-Mart has generally competitive prices with our local mega-mart supermarket. Selections are good, except I can find more fancy items, international and organic stuff at the mega-mart. Not all Wal-Marts are the same. They vary their merchandise mix based on demographics; hence the New York City Wal-Mart is not going to look the same as the Wal-Mart in rural Texas, for example. This message has been edited. I always leave Wal mart so mad, I try hard NOT to go there. We got one about 8 miles from home, and it quickly turned. Then we got a brand new one 4 miles in the other direction. When I first went in, it was beautiful, and I was so excited, I thought, I'll be here often.
My next trip was the pits, I was looking for a rain coat for my dd, nope, no coats, the sausage was out dated, the yogurt was more expensive, the fish looked terrible. I just left the buggy and walked out of the store. Today, we went to a local store, and while I didn't find everything I wanted, I was happy that I was supporting a local store, even though I probably paid about 2 dollars total more than I would have. I love our nearest Walmart.. its about 10 years old, the kindest staff, nice people, always good prices, always have stuff in stock..never have to wait in lines.. if you cant find something an associate will physically walk with you to the item rather than saying "I dunno.." or pointing to where it might be.
I will drive 22 miles one way to Walmart rather than a half mile to Kmart here in town. I would rather eat ground glass than shop at Kmart.. I bought about half my groceries last time at walmart, buying only items I KNOW are less expensive than my regular grocery.. I saved almost 60 bucks. |

I quit working for W~M 2 years ago after working for them 10+ years.I vowed never to shop there again.Unfortunately, because I live in a small town, there are things I must buy there, such as pet food. Having multiple pets,I have no choice because I have comparison shopped and the local stores don't have my brands, and the ones that do charge almost twice as much. So I grind my teeth and pick up the few items local stores don't have about twice a month.
After years of buying almost everything there, I feel like a whole new world of shopping has opened up for me. |

Becky, just in case you would consider buying your dog food in bulk and online, here's a thread on Dogster that contains coupon codes for lots of different online dog food stores. Even with shipping, many people find that they can get their food for less through these sites!

They just revamped our walmart and while before they carried tons of stuff (but almost never had everything you needed in stock) now they carry almost nothing! I dont know what they fill the store with. I went looking for lampshades and found they dont even carry them anymore. They had one left, on clearance from before the revamp. They got rid of their fabric and crafts sections, and the housewares section has nothing. My local grocery store is a little more pricey but not buy much. I figure with gas prices the way they are, its not worth saving .20 per item when I have to drive further. Now I only go to WM for specific things and very very infrequently.
