Old friends! Love the chance to pop in, weigh in on TQ's cool new project, hear that Froo is keeping it all together for DIL and generally enjoy the board.
Since taking my dream job last fall, I've been absent and I miss you guys. The week they hired me I learned that the project manager would be leaving (following her husband to his new job in CO after he was out of work for a good while) and just as I her replaced, the development director needed to follow her husband to San Francisco for same need.
I've been in "keep things going and do more than one job" mode since I arrived. I know all of you can relate to the feeling of being mid-job, overwhelmed and then another apparent obstacle arrives. Gals - this is a 3 man shop and running without either one of these folks is craazy.
Despite that, I'm so thankful to be working at a mission I'm committed to. Really thankful to be working full time as the second son heads off to college to join the first (yes, we had another High School Graduation!) We have a great Board of Directors (non-profit) and really terrific partners. Having a job to offer during these times is a blessing. My kids are healthy. My older college man showed up for Fathers Day weekend unannounced (with his Big Bang-like brainiac colleagues in tow) and we all feasted on chicken skewers on the patio today like kings.
p.s. Nothing fancy about being the "executive" here - a lot of what we do is river field science so I've done my share of getting dirty too (spent one Saturday getting a tick removed, another beating bushes for snakes before kids arrived for service work), so you have an idea how glamorous being 'in charge' is. Just paddling as fast upstream as I can - glad to see old friends in print, and hope to be back soon (like November, realistically).
Good to see you on, LDE! I can relate (to some of it at least!). I haven't been on a lot lately myself, but had to check your post when I saw it to see what you've been up to.
Glad to see you LDE! I always looked forward to reading your solutions to various problems. I wondered why you had stopped posting. Glad it was just regular life getting in the way. How nice that you have another high school graduate! I hope you will be able to stop by earlier than November though!
