FOUND ANOTHER TABLE...going back to a rectangle dining table??? input plz. SEE PIC's Sign In/Join

I have had round/oval and rectangle. I am always drawn back to farm-house style tables.

My current round to oval table is 42 inches wide and 60 in long with the leaf in it.

I would like something not as wide as my current table and I found this 33 in wide farm house style table on Craigslist, of course, right??!!

I think I've seen this listed before but at a much higher price, now it is listed at a more reasonable price...well at least it's getting MY attention.

Here is a pic from the listing, and I will also attach the CL link so you can see other pic's.

Tell me what you think?

I like how your current table looks. But I don't have to live with it, would the other table make life easier? Would you gain more space? Or is it a matter of liking the rectangle one better?

I like your table but if you wanted a farmhouse one, then go for it -- it's your house and you have to live with it.

I thought I wanted a narrow rectangular table for our breakfast room -- sort of a European conservatory style was what I was thinking in that room -- but it's totally different and I do like it -- would I like the other better? I'm not sure -- the one sideboard we have has LOADS of storage that a baker's rack would not have so . . .

If that's what you want and you can afford it -- do it!!!!

I think your current table looks nice -- however. Would you keep the same chairs?

yes, I would keep my chairs. I would be open to staining or painting the CL table to add contrast to the chairs. Or possibly painting the chairs black and keeping the table the wood tone. I like that look, similar to pic below.

I sent and email to the seller asking if the legs come off for transport.

Do you think 2 chairs, average size would fit on the long side of the table. 33 wide by 60 long, does that seat 6 you think?

I would also consider going to a glass top table. I know people complain of smudges, dust and scratches, but I think it would be more sanitary than wood.

I think with the rectangle table being 33 inches wide vs 42 inches of the oval, I would gain quite a bit of space.

This table is 60 long x 36 wide and 2 chairs fit, so that answers that question of mine..This one actually isn't too bad either. The other table looks a little more authentic, little more character...

About 9 inches, you don't list the length.

I do like the rectangle table. But I think when you go look at it, that it will be very light in color. I don't think your current chairs will match the table. But I could be wrong.
I do love that pic you have with the round table and black chairs. Very cute.
I think the last pic you posted is very farmhouse looking. Not sure if I care for it, for your space. It's very country looking for your space.

Consider not only the floor space, but would the table surface be large enough? At times our kitchen table isn't large enough. It is 48 inches in diameter and is round. Getting harder to find oval placemats. Rectangle mats are easy to find.

It is your home so go with what you like.

That's a great table. My DD had it in her home for the first 10 yrs of her marriage, until her twins came into the world. You could easily put 6 around it. I love the pic of black chairs with pine table. If I could give you one piece of advice, Don't go for a glasstop! I have one here in Fl in our DA and it drives me nuts and its just me and DH here. EVERYTHING shows--crumbs, dust, fingerprints, smudges from our arms, dogs nose prints, dust etc. drives me nuts. I'd like to be free from cleaning it many times a day. No reason a wood table can't be sanitary.

Oops..both would be 60inches long.

If I were to consider the table with the white apron and legs, I would paint the white part black and leave the top.

I wouldn't be trying to match my chairs...so I would have to paint or stain the table or paint my chairs.

I need help deciding if 60 inches in length is plenty or 72 will be too much?

60 in is about standard, so that is pretty much what I'm gonna be running across, but $175. obo is a pretty good starting price on a nice larger table.

If I got the 72 in table, on a daily basis I could put my 4 chairs on the long sides of the table instead of one chair on each end and then when I need to add more seating, add chairs to the ends.

I like it, it's a real nice table.
If your dining room is large enough, I don't know why it wouldn't work.
Try measuring in out on the floor with masking tape, and see what you think.
With that table in your dining room. Will there still be enough room, to sit at your PC?

yes..will still have room to use computer. the 72 inch table is 6 inches slimmer than my round/oval. So that isnt' an issue.

I don't have the space to store an extra table, so it has to be one or the other for me.

My dining room is 9 ft wide but opens up to the kitchen which you dont see my above picture. 72in would be the max I could go in length. It would nice to have that extra bit of space so when you have 6-7 people around the table you hava a little bit extra elbow room.

I love the 72in.table best. You can go with it in that area and still have room.It will look wonderful with your chairs too.Wink I was looking through inspiration pics this morning and saw a farmhouse table with all the chairs on the sides, like your talking about.

One thing you would have to repostition the mirror & aqua table. It would drive me batty not being centered.SmileI want to paint a piece of furniture like yours.LOVE that table.

Yes the top does look like it has some wear. Guess you would have to see it in person, to see how bad it is.
You could always refinish the top. But I really don't like refinishing furniture, so I doubt I would want to do it.

Sorry, didn't like the old table that you had before and don't like either one of these square ones any better. Your dining area is small, the pedestal gives you a more spacious feeling because there are no legs to clutter up the space.
I'd paint the chairs and the pedestal black and see how you like it. You can always change out the table.

A foot longer huh? There goes your extra space. Smile

How many people to do seat every night for dinner? I personally LOVE your current table. How long have you had it?

I would write a list of pro's and con's on each table and then make the wisest decision possible.

But in the end, it is YOUR decision, no one elses.

I went and looked at the 72in long table. It is nice but the top needs to be refinished. I like it, but not enough to redo the top at this time...it has alot of knots in it too. I think I will pass on this one right now.

Catie-there is only 3 of us, but I do have my sister and nieces over every once in a while and then there are 6 or 7. I really don't remember how long I have had this table, maybe 2 yrs..??

Jaysmom..you must have a good memory, because I'm trying to figure out what I had before this round one..maybe the table that came with the chairs..

Another option could be a rectangle trestle type table..but it would have to be the right dimensions. This one is 3 x 5, but I would want it a little longer and no wider.

Something similar to this-

I love the trestle table and it would have been my suggestion because no "legs" to be in the way as in the farm house table. I recently changed my round table with a metal base (too heavy to move when cleaning the floors!) to a smaller rectangle table with legs. I wanted a trestle table but could never find one. I would scoop that trestle table up in a minute but live too far away.

I think the longer 72" table would be too big for your space.

Hope you find what works best for you.

Regards,

JMHO, but I like the one you already have. The oval table breaks up all of the "square" lines in the rest of the room.

But if you need a bigger one, then I say go for it.
