Q: I'm wondering about the background of what appeared to be the reverse side of your comforter.

A: The background is a crisp white like the front.

"might think twice about doing a white headboard and painting tons of furniture white for that reason."

A: If I do a navy headboard, would the white furniture look ok? (As you can see I kinda like white furniture these days, cuz we've always had stained (browns). Was just looking for something different, bright, cheery downstairs. What color was inside your head? Smile Since I'll be painting it, sky's the limit. Smile

C: "think about doing a grey headboard in a shade that works with the slate blue. That solves the problem of the comforter's reverse, repeats grey from the window treatment

A: No grey in the stripe fabic. It's actually navy and lt beige

C: "if you wanted to only do a valance instead of your Roman shade, the one in my head would work well with a simple shade with an inside mount. Let me know if you're interested and I'll try to describe it in more detail."

A: Of course, I'd like to see what's inside your head. Smile Didn't think about the valance with shade option. My concern is for privacy is all.

Links seem only to be working if you actually cut and paste the link within the posting. I wanted to do "bold" for my answers and that doesn't work either. What the heck HGTV? Get with the technical fixes!

Not sure if you can make out the navy herring bone pattern where you thought it was grey.

p.s. I know what you mean about writing a reply, and taking too long to post...they disappear. Frown

Nance, that's too funny! So the pinstripes are actually beige? Same for the wider (say small-medium) stripe inbetween them? It totally appears grey on my screen. (P.S. was talking about the valance fabric in this paragraph.)

Oops, did you mean beige on the comforter's reverse? But the background's a crisp white? I must be confused. (What's new, hahahaha...) Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

It'd be nice to locate a grey fabric (meaning the valance) but I don't think the beige (if it's beige) matters, so long as it doesn't clash with your main fabric on the bed. If I wanted to use grey as my linking color/neutral between the basement rooms, I would simply ignore it.

If you did a navy headboard, any white furniture would be great - the pieces would have that nice, crisp blue/white look with all the contrast. If you did a grey headboard, it'd work well with your slate blue (plus the navy) and also introduce the grey accent. (A grey headboard wouldn't stop me from painting the furniture white, either - if it were my room.) Not that a blue headboard wouldn't work with all of your blues - it would.

If you did blinds or some sort of nice bubble shade on the windows plus a valance, I would purchase blinds in my paint color shade to make the basement window and wall appear larger and taller. Found a couple of valances that are kinda' close to what I was thinking of. Saved the page but ran out of time to post them here - I'll come back later whenever I have a break.

Have a great day! Hope all is well. The above, JMHO as usual.

Well, let's say the light background in the strip fabric kinda of a cream, not actually beige. A lil darker cream than the background of these postings. Smile

On the reverse side of the comforter with the small print it IS white. Smile

Ok, so I will probably go with a navy headboard (fabric or vinyl) against the slate blue of the walls. Hey, could I paint the dresser navy vs white? How would that look against the slate blue walls? Or would that be too much blue?
I might put a small "fabric covered" round table for a night stand, too; using the stripe and navy probably. ?
Here are samples of what we're working with to date. Smile
Top row: the 2 sides of the comforter;
Mid row: slate blue wall, navy headboard;
3rd row: roman shade fabric.

this is the round table I was thinking about doing with perhaps the stripe fabric over a navy fabric, or vice versa. Unless I should bring in another small print for over or under the navy.
Geez, I wish I could find fabric like the blue/white small print of the under side of the comforter in the first row of the pic. Frown

Hi Nance, sorry I'm so slow. Trying to catch up on work. Love your ideas, BTW!

I wouldn't worry about the various neutrals. Grey would still work, if you wanted to use it, b/c of your slate blue. Given the white background of the comforter reverse, I would personally pass on a white headboard. Navy will look terrific!

A navy dresser sounds great, too. I'd do it in high gloss. I believe you'd find it stunning. It will work well with the slate blue wall. One thing, however - I get the impression that this is a fairly large room. The two colors will make the room cozier - or feel smaller. If that's an issue, you might rethink some of your color choices.

I mulled over the navy on your round table/nightstand. If the headboard's navy, I'd go with a crisp white (for contrast) on the bottom and then cover it with a large, hemmed square of the striped fabric, placed on the diagonal. That's my .02 for that item.

WRT matching the reverse comforter's fabric, I wouldn't worry about it. Finding it could require many hours, so I'd pass. I've spent hours and made myself crazy (well, crazier - haha) searching for things like that.

IIRC, I suggested sourcing a fabric for your family room (on a different thread) with the fr's colors plus these blues/greys, etc. I remember suggesting a floral of some sort, too. If you select that fabric, you might repeat it in this room a time or two - pillows or whatever. Unless you're going nautical, I'd get an entirely different type of fabric to change things up.

WRT the valance and shade option, I was thinking about a very simple, lightly gathered valance with a couple of inches above a small rod, plus 6-8" below, depending on the window's scale. Looked at several general valance websites and finally found one that was fairly close. Clicked on it and it came from Tarjait. (Funny b/c I don't recommend shopping there for home furnishings.)

Anyway, if you go the target.com, search for the "Bucati Houndstooth Window Valance". It doesn't have a couple of inches above the rod but other than that, it's the basic valance I was thinking of. ETA: I would gather a bit more/use slightly more fabric for a crisper/more tailored look.

Also was considering a grommeted valance. Ironically, they had one on the same Target page. It's the "Bamboo Grommet Valance". It has a larger rod than the other and a nice, clean look - perfect for your striped, crisp fabric, IMHO.

The grommeted valance also gives you an opportunity to introduce a metal into the space. If you go with gold/brass, I believe that'd be on the nautical side of things. Silvertone/chrome might be preferable with your colors and grey, if you're using it. Or, you could always de-emphasize the grommets/make them disappear by doing something like a navy band (similar to the Bamboo version's band) on the valance's top with navy grommets.

WRT your space planning, I'm curious how many pieces/hard goods you'll use. How much white furniture? So far, you have a bed, dresser and nightstand - anything else? If you haven't done so, I'd suggest laying out a space plan, either on paper (to scale, if possible) or by marking the items on the floor, by their exact dimensions, with blue painter's tape.

BTW, your colors all look terrific on the carpet in the photo, above. Is the carpet taupe? That confirms that taupe will work - as we thought.

Let me know how it's all going! Have a great weekend.

All of the above, JMHO.

P.S. It was faster to type than link up the Tgt photos. Will give it a try another time, although it hasn't worked since they "upgraded" their system. (lol)
