You never see an electrical cord or power strip or even an electrical outlet with things plugged in, in home interior photos. [You never see wastepaper baskets either, even in most bathroom photos.]

No wonder the rooms look so immaculate and perfect!

My rooms are absolutely lined with endless cables and cords and they are really unsightly.

What do you do with all your cables and cords?

Cables in my house are hidden in or behind a piece of furniture, but I don't try to hide electrical cords. They are a fact of life.

In professional photographs things they don't want us to see are photoshopped out and staged carefully. Not realistic to the way most of us live at times.

There are various products to wrap cords and attach them to the backs or legs of furniture. Most stores that sell electronics have them. You can use velcro products too - there's one that is meant for use in the garden to tie plants to trellises that I've used indoors too. It's a narrow strip of velcro that comes in a roll and you cut off the length you need.

You can also attach cords to walls or trim with staples (careful not to staple *thru* a cord) and paint to match.

If you have a lot of cords in one area you can use one of those plastic shower rod covers. Choose a color that works, cut to size, and enclose all cords within it. Attached to the back of a piece of furniture it keeps everything neat and tidy.

I try to hide them but am not obsessive about it. As Gracie said, they are a fact of life.

Great idea! We moved my "office" out to the living room, and the cords are a mess, and visible. This is a great idea to control them and make it look better.

thanks for your replies. I almost feel like taking a picture of all the cords I have in my bedroom which also doubles as my office.

There's all the connections between computer/fax/ printer/ external hard drive/ magic jack/ tv/ phone/ some kind of digital box for the TV/ the router/ 3 piece speakers.

Then there's cables from the TV, the router, and phone lines to the wall.

And then then all of the electrical cords for these items!

Then add to that a fan I keep by my bed, lamps, an electric pencil sharpener, a razor that I have to keep constantly charged, another separate power strip just for recharging things like my mp3 player. I don't have a single outlet that doesn't have a power strip. !

If you're close to an Ikea or can order from one, I believe they have the best and most inexpensive solutions for the cord and cable problem. You can check out the catalog online.

Lowes and Home Depot have covers in different shapes you can use to run the cords along the base boards. Cut them to size and paint them to match the walls or ours run along the top of the baseboard and blends in.

When we had some work done we had many of our wire put behind the drywall and have outlets for the speakers, etc.
