As Victorial Girl mentions "Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg". Sometimes her saying sits in the back of my mind when hunting for decorating items. I am working on a small re-do for my kitchen which includes a few decorating pieces above the cabinets. There is limited space so size is important. Found this plain wooden box sitting on the shelf just like this. (minus those 2 nails). ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives ![]()

I added the 2 nails for a perfect reason I promise. ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives ![]()

A friend on the boards sent me these treasured gifts from her collection. So just a plain wooden box became part of a display on top of the kitchen cabinets. It makes me smile. The nails were used to hang the extra special lids my friend sent. So thanks VG for that inspiration saying. There are still parts not finished so I'll post the rest of kitchen redo later. This message has been edited. Great idea - I love the lids! Summers are just this side of hell, but you don't have to shovel sunshine... http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j8/KGinCA/

Glad my quote inspired you BR but I doubt you needed it. That is a sweet box and is perfect for any way you choose to use it. Great idea for it. Can't wait to see your redo. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

Thank you Everyone! JC, I am not sure if it is old since I found it at Marshalls recently. It's probably a similar reproduction. Mary Ruth and KG, Yes, those lids had to be displayed too. VG, I will share the rest too. Still have lots of work to do. Thanks Again! ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

Indeed, repurposing, reconfiguring and just plain RETHINKING objects and using them in unexpected ways is what makes for a memorable space. I've always been a fan of this "out of the box" thinking. You can definitely train your mind's eye to see the potential in just about everything. These well chosen/placed objects and touches keeps things personal and far from boring. Sometimes they take some tweeking (as has been beautifully illustrated), but often the possibilities are limited only by one's imagination. This is a great way to utilize what you already have or to obtain an inexpensive, seemingly mundane object and breathing new life into it.
