Our DR is comprised of mismatched pieces. The table is from a consignment store; the buffet & hutch are Lexington Furniture pieces, bought new; and the chairs are PB Napoleon. The overall feel is FC, and it generally works, IMO. (If you don't think so, then don't says so please as we are not replacing anything! LOL
My one complaint about the hutch is that it doesn't have all that much storage room. Last year, my mom moved into a senior community and I inherited china, serving pieces, etc., all of which I am keeping in boxes for now - I sure would like to have a place to display and store them. So, I have been ISO a corner china cabinet for awhile. I have been rejecting most of what I've been seeing because stylistically, for various reasons, most things don't work. This morning I saw a cabinet on Craigslist that might fill the bill. I'm not entirely sure, though, and I definitely don't want to make a mistake! I wondered if you all could give me your opinions. Ok, so with that background - here is the DR (more pics to follow): ![]() |

Picture #2 of the DR. (It was set up for a dinner party w/both leaves in the table and extra chairs, so the room looks more crowded than it really is.)

Here is the Craigslist china cabinet I am considering. It is made of oak (as are the other pieces albeit with different finishes) and the seller is asking $500 (does that seem reasonable?). Now that I'm looking at it with the other pictures, I'm wondering whether it is too plain

Its a beautiful china cabinet. Can you put it in your living room?

No, not the LR. The intended spot is in the DR, in a corner you cannot see in those pictures. My issue is not that the room is too crowded; what I am concerned about is whether, stylistically speaking, that piece would work with the rest of the furniture.
What do you think? |

These additional pictures give you a better sense of the space. The cabinet would go where that DR armchair is, in the corner, and we would find a new home for that little side table.

One more.

To me it doesn't look like it would work with your other things. Color is wrong and to plain, IMO.

I prefer corner cabs in pairs, but if you like the piece you could consider painting it...then there would be less of a matching issue. The picture is small, but it doesn't look like oak to me...? I can't see enough grain...maybe maple?

I have a corner cabinet which we had in the dining room -- we replaced it with a cabinet that fit against the wall because . . .
there is not that much storage in a corner cabinet -- I think of it more for display in the upper sections and because it is triangle storage in the bottom, I just don't think you get that much out of them rather than a flat piece. I do think it is a good piece, however, and I do think it would fit in your room. What I would do is replace the sofa table with a piece that offers more storage -- even if it was the same size footprint width wise -- you'd have floor to ceiling storage and get more storage for your money IMO. I moved our corner cabinet to a corner of the living room and use the top for display of some blue and white china -- the bottom holds extra vases, etc. It's good for that purpose -- it just didn't hold much of my china. Thanks Linderhof; this is good food for thought. I am hesitant to add much to that wall, because when both leaves are in the table it is a pretty tight fit. Still, very good points. Thanks! |

And the sofa table can be moved -- a full china cabinet can't!
I would definitely go look at it -- you can see how much storage you think there is -- if it's the corner cabinet or nothing then that is your answer. Your question, however, was did we think it would go and I think it will. Martha |

$500 seems maybe alittle high but if it is solid wood and all the drawers are dovetailed then The price would be OK. I think it is a little plain but if you restained it a little darker I think it would fit right in with your eclectic mix.

It is more plain - like a country piece. It does look like a nice cabinet tho - may be worth taking a look at. $500 isn't a bad price at all. It may be an antique - hard to know unless you look at it.
Corner cabinets don't hold a ton - but they can hold quite a bit and stay out of the way - space savers. I think FC is like a lot of the "country" looks, ecclectic and collected rather than matching suites. You could paint it black or antique it with black if it isn't a fine piece and you'd not notice any style issues I think Putting your china in there, maybe with some white embroidered napkins on point on the shelves would help too. |
