As most of you know I am painting my kitchen cabinets. I also have a 1/2 bath off of the kitchen that I am also painting the cabinets. In my laundry room and 1/2 bath there are two fake drawers. I will post a picture of the ones in the laundry. I was wanting to put the pulls on them to make them look better. In the laundry room the sink is in the way and feeling around there is a huge block of wood that is behind the fake drawers, same thing in the 1/2 bath. So, can I glue the pulls on? Has anyone else put handles on a fake drawer?

Here is a pic of the laundry room fake drawers

You might want to use a product like liquid Nails, and hold the pulls on with masking tape until it fully dries. I would use something strong like that, or check the glue section of your store to see what else may bond metal to wood. Since there isn't much surface on which to spread the adhesive, it's why I'd be trying LN if it was my project.

In our kitchen island, we had to sacrifice a drawer when we converted to a gas cooktop , but I wanted the hardware to be cohesive. My dh drilled the appropriate holes and then screwed in the new handles via access from the cabinet below since the drawer no longer pulled out. Though it's not easy, it's doable and a surefire way to ensure the handles will stay put. Come resale or a clueless guest), people are bound to tug at the handles Eek

I would say epoxy or liquid nails as BDM suggested but Froo Froos suggestion is better a/c then the screws would also match other hardware.

If you look from inside the cabinet below, I think you can remove the drawer panels, attach the hardware, and then put the fake drawer panels back on. They screw into the base from the inside ( at least on ours they do :-)
I love the white paint you are doing, looks great!

I was thinking about it when I first saw your drawers. I totally got that they were not really drawers. It doesn't bug me to see that they don't have handles, but it was the first thing I noticed when you repainted.

BTW, the change looks great regardless of drawer pulls! Please let us know how it turns out!

Showed this to hubby, (he's a contractor) and he says that "huge block of wood" you talked about probably has screws in it and if you can get to the screws, it will com off along with the fake drawers. Just attach your pulls and the re-attach the drawer fronts and the block of wood. BTW, it looks good!

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

nomomauve, I will definitely get inside the cabinet and see if I can unscrew the blocks. I might have a problem in the laundry room because of the sink but I have a little bitty screw driver and that should help.

Thanks again everyone. I really think that the false drawers would look so much better with handles.

I just finished doing a sink base for the utility room in our basement. The "fake" drawer part on it actually snapped out. There was some sort of hardware screwed in that let it snap together. I was afraid I was going break it but I finally got it out.

Can't remember where your cabinets were from. The one I have is an unfinished oak stock cabinet.

Laura - just wanted to say that your laundry room cabinets turned out great and I like the hardware you chose.
