Hello Everyone,

Could you please offer some suggestions to help me decorate this multifunctional bedroom? It has a rattan daybed, a small chest, a sewing machine cabinet and baby crib. The room will be painted Benjamin Moore "Bennington Gray" unless I change my mind.

I specifically need advice about some coordinating fabrics to use for throw pillows. If I used the same fabric that you see in the bed skirt I made, would this be too matchy matchy? It seems to me that interesting fabric choices might really rescue this room from boredom. In your opinion, what might be some good choices of colors/patterns/shapes/sizes, etc?

Also, what style/color(s) of area rugs would best complement what I have in the room?
Please feel free to be as general or specific in your suggestions as you like.

Finally, I purchased the crib at a neighborhood garage sale earlier this month when the doctor and sonogram technician agreed we were having a granddaughter. Alas, they were very wrong. Baby B (Benjamin) is now calling the shots, so I am looking for some gender neutral fabrics to make bedding for the crib which works well with the color scheme of the room.

I'll post a few pics now. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

PS I will not be using the green pillows on the bed at all. The gold ones I would like to use unless you feel there are better options.

Thank you again for your help.

I am liking the blue pillow fabric ideas in photo 4 and it is also the skirt. I think a couple of that color would be nice, no gold sail boats.

Now, you know as soon as the little prince is born that room gets filled with 'baby things' and personal items just for him as his personality comes out. So, the rest of the decorating will just 'happen' as his luggage brings when he visits and as I previously mentioned, some things stay behind.

You will need a shelf unit and dresser for clothes and I love the 'bird on the wires' picture!

It is a beautiful room just as it is! What a lucky grandson coming into the world with so many people to cherish him and beautiful places to rest his little head!

Congratulations on your grandson! You have beautiful things, and I'm so impressed that you sewed that gorgeous bed skirt. I'm in love with the coverlet on the daybed, and I like the idea of pillows made from the bedskirt material. I'd also add something else, maybe a solid of the very light green from the leaves on your coverlet.

I love the birds on the wire, and don't think anything you do here could make this room be boring. I want to see how it all turns out! I had to look up your paint color, Bennington Gray, a nice neutral.

ETA, oh my , my avatar is so distracting! So sorry! Maybe I'll stop posting for a while. Wink

Thanks for your suggestions and good wishes.

Mary Ruth - You are probably right about the needs of the baby dictating what else goes on in the room. I'm a planner by nature, but I need to learn to "go with the flow." I appreciate your thoughts about repeating the fabric of the bedskirt in throw pillows. I wasn't sure about the gold pillows. Honestly, the only reason I considered this option was because of the little bird printed on them.

Annabel16 - Glad you liked the room. I have a tendency to play it safe, which in my case can evolve into "boring." Thanks for your suggestion about the green throw pillows. I will definitely consider it. It seems I have a knack for picking fabrics colors/designs which are sometimes difficult for me to coordinate. There are a gazillion blue fabrics out there but once I got the swatches home, most were just wrong. Also, thanks for including the BM piant chip in your reply.

CJO, thanks for your congrats. We are so very excited about our first grandchild.

OT, but I noticed the pic of the dog with a ball in its mouth. I hate to see any dog with a ball like that in its mouth. Our Brittany/Spaniel (mutt) dog nearly died after he swallowed a tennis ball. For 2 wks he didn't eat; first vet gave him an antibiotic, didn't get better. Second vet took x-ray and found the ball. He had surgery to remove it.

Overall, I like the room so far. I like the colors and decor and I don't think it is boring at all.

I believe it would look good if you pull the daybed skirt fabric over to the crib either in a bumper pad or the crib skirt. There are so many contemporary fabrics out here that are suitable for babies in grays and yellows and also bird prints very similar to your pillows are quite popular in kids and nursery fashions right now too. You might consider usng a bird print on the crib fabrics that coordinates with the daybed bedding, and your bird pillows will pull it together with the daybed. I know if you shop around a bit you will find lots to choose from.

ETA- The fabrics are showing up as gray on my monitor.

Thanks for your suggestions, Becky. The background (field color) in the coverlet is actually a sage green with grey understones, but I understand what you are saying about tying the crib to the colors already in use. I've done quite alot of looking on the internet and have discovered so many cute fabrics for babies. I even saw a mobile made using stitched cloth birds..very cute.
