My husband and I just bought our first home and we are trying to come up with ideas on what to do with our master bedroom. It is a very long bedroom with built in closets on both ends. The room is 22 feet by 12 feet with 8 foot ceilings. I am in love with a canopy look, but I dont know if it would work with this room. Any suggestions on what can be done with this room? Thank you so much for your help! ![]()

Nice details in your MBR; love the floors and all the light. When you have long room like this, it helps to create one or more zones: one could be 12 X 11 for your sleeping zone; the other 12 X 11 could be for a sitting room. You absolutely have plenty of room for a canopy bed. The average King bed's length is less than 7'; even with a chunky foot and head board adding another 2' to the overall length, let's say, it will still fit. Of course, you will have to measure the very top of the canopy posts to make sure they can clear the ceiling height. I recommend you go online to find a free room planner tool that will help you plot out your bedroom without lifting any furniture. Here's a good one: http://arrangearoom.bhg.com/arrangearoom/

Welcome and congrats on your first home. I agree w/ the suggestion to create zones in this long space w/ the bed remaining the main focal point. You have the luxury of creating a reading nook or feature a vanity w/ stool in this space. A canopy or partial canopy treatment is indeed doable in this space too. W/ such abundant light, consider a med. to dark wall color factoring in your room scheme. Draw scheme inspiration from bedding, window treatment or area rug. Keep in mind that the walls are to serve as a backdrop to your furnishings so contrast is important. If going for those values in wall color, consider painting the ceiling a lighter value.
